I personally prefer to buy all my own parts and just pay someone to do the machine work, which when it comes down to it is much more important than all of the components combined. You can buy the best components available and have crappy machine work done and end up with a very expensive rifle that will shoot no better than a factory rifle that costs 1/3 the price.
^^^^ Now we are getting somewhere; I agree wholeheartedly.

Now for the previous poster no I do not own any HCR rifles but I bet most of their customers are repeat offenders and could care less about any of our opinions.

Never had a "full custom" built, but I did have my .270 restocked with a custom made stock a few years ago. Can't really recommend the guy that carved it out as ended up having quite a few problems with him, although he did do good work. However, where I got the wood blank from is a great guy. Might look at www.wattswalnut.com for your blank. Seems to be more competitive on price and not overdoing it compared to a lot out there. Here is a pic of the blank I used when it was close to being finished...

I'm a big 700 fan but a Cooper action is so much more smooth it is just incredible. If you can locate a Cooper at a local dealer, it would be well worth checking out. Your will be amazed in just opening and closing the bolt a couple of times. The machine work is unbelievable. All of their rifles come with a factory target shot by one of their shooters to verify that each rifle shoots to Cooper's standards. Do a search for "Cooper" on gunbroker and you can get a good feel for what they have to offer. Also, be aware that some of their rifles are not "repeaters" and therefore do not have a magazine.
