Any type of solvent that cuts grease well will work,Diesel Fuel,Acetone. Hot soapy water followed by any good spray type solvent.Cheaper the better, engine degreaser works good, get a spray bottle, some old tooth or brass brushes and scrub and clean and scrub. Spray down with WD 40 if you use hot soapy water. When finished use some Remington on it

I have heard that RemOil works if you leave if on for about 30 min then wipe it off. But I haven't tried this myself.

After loosening it up with some close-to-boiling hot water, I soaked some cosmo-covered parts for a week in a mixture of acetone and transmission fluid. Worked like a charm.

I prefer Brake cleaner over carburetor cleaner because it doesn't have any lubricants in it and evaporates without leaving an oily film.

We used parts cleaner at work when we got parts in from overseas.

Cosmoline is composed of non-polar hydrocarbons, so a non-polar solvent will work best: things like gasoline, naphthalene, hexane, benzene, toluene. Lots of fun toxic chemicals.

Not sure about acentone since it's a polar aprotic solvent.

Naptha will work but get some gun scrubber and spray the stuff off.

Gasoline melts it like a champ. All we have ever used. Other stuff works too but I ain't keen on scrubbing.
