Remember cosmoline is your friend, if it wasn't for cosmoline your gun wouldnt be preserved as it is, I love cosmoline, I get it in a can everytime I buy a Mosin Nagant, just take your time grab some rags q-tips and some beers and get to cleaning. The wood will soak up some, so as you shoot and the rifle gets hot it will sweat so make sure you take you some rags to the range to wipe off access cosmo. Enjoy!

I have an sks that came packed with that stuff. After about a hundred rounds it worked its may into the bolt assembly and when I dropped the bolt the pin was wedged open unknown to me. It was full auto for ten rounds baby! Pretty scary at the time, glad the muzzle was down range. Be sure to clean clean clean and disassemble everything you can get that gunk out

Take the stock off and get a couple of cans of carburator cleaner. Blasts it right off with minimal scrubbing.

I kinda like the car wash idea.
Will it work on the wood also?
