    New contender stock

I picked this action up probably a year ago from coach w and it has been sitting in the closet ever since. A few weeks ago we got a safety bonus at work and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. The stock set is made by boyds and overall I am very impressed with it. The color is nice and it feels good in hand and on my shoulder, if I was any bigger I think the LOP would be a little short. Not sure what barrel I am going to go with but I've got plenty of time to decide. Let me know what y'all think.

Looks good! Have fun deciding on a caliber, that's the only thing I dislike with TC-deciding what caliber to get

I've been thinking about for a year now! 30-30, 30-30AI, 7-30, 6.8, 300BRM....the list goes on and on. The main use is going to be a walking/deer stand gun. So lightweight and maneuverable.

I think it would look way better with a black synthetic thumbhole stock. Just to save you the hassle of unloading that ugly thing and finding one, I'll just trade you mine

I have a MGM 6.5-284 barrel on mine and absolutely love it!

Sweet. I will take it back now. I don't even think I fired it the first time. But with it all pretty like that I would.

Yea I'm working on that. Too many choices but I'm thinking 30-30 AI OR 6.8spc. If 30-30 I'm going to try out the 125gr noslers.

I thought about get-n a 30-30 barrel for mine simply because the ammo is normally so cheap and available. But wound up with a 23" Bull-barrel 7-30. Glad I did too! Only down side is the availability of factory ammo in 7-30. But I am getting exceptional groupings with the factory stuff. Just need to work on some reloads and see if I can tighten it up to sub 1/2"

7-30 is another very good choice, is yours a factory barrel? And how has its performance been on animals?

Yes, it's factory. I topped it with a Monarch 2.5-10x and Leopold quick disconnect. Haven't shot a critter with it yet. I don't get to gun hunt much anymore. Just once in a great while now. But I do like to shoot . And as you know, shot placement is key to it all anyhow .

I wouldn't be afraid to take a head shot on a turkey at 100 with it if that's what your ask-n .

Well my barrel is ordered, I found a good price on a 23" bull, caliber 30-30. I have 5 boxes of factory shells waiting. I plan on testing the typical 30-30 stuff out and then start the reloading game. I'm really looking forward to the finished product.

If you haven't yet, check out Mike Bellm's website. He is THE TC guru when it comes to accurizing them. Now get you a pistol length barrel and stock and go play IHMSA with it! You really learn how to shoot them when you do it at 200 yards.

Man this has been slow coming together, finally got the barrel in. It is a factory 30-30 barrel that took 5 months to come in due to being back ordered. My rings and base should be in soon and I'll get the scope on her and get her sighted in.

I love the feel of this rifle and the way it is all coming together. I am hoping to have it ready to hunt by next Thursday as that is when I will be meeting my dad and little brother at the lease.

My brother graduates HS this year and I have decided to give him this rifle as a gift. I think he is going to be over the moon with excitement. This will be his first rifle that he owns, no more choosing from dad's arsenal.

I'll update with how she shoots soon, I have a few factory boxes of ammo to run through her.
