I'm a shotgunner at heart (for firearms). I've done my own field test with numerous shotgun loads. CAn't tell you how many hogs I've killed with buckshot in their backs. 00 Buck is good to about 20 yards. Anything past that, you're hoping for a lucky pellet to find its mark. If you don't believe me, youtube "00 buckshot test". For a smooth bore, I would go with Brennke sabot slugs. Their sabot slugs CAN be shot out of a smooth bore with great accuracy. They were designed to be shot out of both rifled and smoothbore barrels. Use the most open choke you have. Do not use full. You'll be all over the place.

Thank you!
I went out a week after my post and shot a 200# sal with 00B from about 25 yards and she dropped like a sack of bricks. I will try Brennke Sabot Slugs the next time (If I can find them in local stores)

Here are the pics per requests.
Went on a public land hog hunt and stalked them. It was a beating and the weather was warm. At times, I was crawling in the mud to squeeze under the thick wooded areas. At the end it was all worth it.
A couple of hunters heard me shoot and came to see, were kind enough to help me cut it up (I gave them the shoulders and tenderloins)
The picture doesn't show the size well. I estimated about 150-170# but the other hunters said it was well over 200#
