Hog hunting with smooth bore shotgun on Public Land

I see their tracks all the time when I'm duck hunting so I'm gonna try my luck in killing one.... or more if I'm lucky.

what type of ammo? Buck or Slug?
what's the effective distance with slug & Buck?
the best way to find and stalk them...
What choke for Slug, what choke for Buck?

any other help would be appreciated.

You'll want to verify that shotguns are allowed for feral hogs at your particular public hunting land.

Many of them only allow archery for feral hog. But, if they have a general season (like SHNF and Luminant, for example) you should be good.

That said, if I were using a shotgun, I'd probably go for an alternating load of buckshot and slug. good luck, and KAP!

The WMA I'm planning on hunting for them allows the use of Archery and shotguns only. I don't have a bow yet, or else I would go with a Bow.

I'd go with buckshot using a full choke. Should be good to about 30 yards.

I like 00 buckshot and a short barrel shotgun.

It swings fast in tight quarters where the oinkers live.

My buddy uses his tactical shotgun, having 7 rounds on hand is sure nice.

3" mag 00 buckshot will work great.

Full choke is not necessarily the best with the large shot. Mine patterned much better with improved cylinder.

If you're basically stand hunting I would choose a slug but most times its spot and stalk so buckshot has the advantage IMO. I prefer 00 buck and inside forty yards

I only use slugs anymore because I put a 3'' load of 00 on about a 150lbs pig a few years ago at 38 yards and I think its still laughing.
