    Range Finder

I need a range finder... I have never owned one! I don't want to break the bank, but I don't want a walmart/dicks special. Would like it to got accurately out 1000 if that's possible.

Thats the hard part without breaking the bank! A lot of them say they will range out to 1000 yards but what they don't say is that is in perfect conditions and only on highly reflective huge targets….. I have a Leupold RX1000 and I had a hard time getting a range on a deer stand at 600 yards the other day! I also have a Zeiss Victory that claims 1300 but I have not been able to get that on anything other than an entire hillside..

I like both of mine, just realize that getting ranges at longer distances is spotty at best. I have read great things about the Sworovski but that might be in the break the bank category!!

the leupolds are flat out junk.

My vote would be a leica or swarovski. I have a swarovski. You get what you pay for. I have used numerous leicas and loved them. Only reason i went with the swaro is i found a good deal on it.

I have had ranges over the 1500 yard claim they have. Furthest has been right at 1900 yards. It was a doe on a sand dune.... and it ranged the dune. We tested it side by side to a pair of leica geovids and it held to the T out to 1000 (thats the furthest we had for good targets to range and it was an 18x18" target at 1000)

If i was paying full retail the leica 1600 would probably be my choice. If money was no object a vectronix terrapin would be in my pack

Thats what I bought the Zeiss for and I am a little let down with its performance.. I wish I would have spent a little more for the Leica 1600 or saved for a while and got the Sworo's.

The vectronixs is $1995. That was a quick google search. I'm thinkin the Leica 1600 may be what I'm looking for?

I have the Vortex. I think I paid about $350 for it. Can't remember for sure. Maybe a bit less than that. I really like it. They advertise 1000 for it, but that's while mounted to a tripod. I have shot out to 500 ish w/ it while holding in my hand braced against something sturdy (tree or side of deer blind).
