    Vortex Viper Issues??????

Ok guys, I purchased a viper hs lr 4x16x44 and I'm having a issue. (Let me state that it is currently on its way back to vortex as of today.) My problem is, when I increase the magnification past 10 power it gets really hazy and will not focus out. I spoke with Colleen at Vortex and she told they would be happy to take a look at it, but that seemed to be a common complaint with the scope. She was super nice and went out of her way to help me and I appreciated it. My issue is, this is 600.00 scope, that in my opinion shouldn't have this kind of problem. What is the point of having the magnification, if you can't use it? Has anybody noticed this? If so, was Vortex able to correct it?

I really like everything else about it, but was highly disappointed upon discovering this. Any and all input please?

Vortex has always treated me right. But I will say under the 1000$ mark most scopes leave lots to be desired when compared to high end scopes

I agree, but I have 2 leupold 4.5x14x40 & 50 scopes that seem to be twice the scope and I paid roughly the same money. I'm definitely gonna give them the opportunity to make it right, but I was just wondering if anybody has experienced the same issues.

I was just fixing to tell you that. Very happy with my 4.5x14x50 leupold that I paid about the same money for. My only vortex product, a pair of binocs is fixing to be headed back because they broke.

Not being negative. It is a value based optic. That is why they are bought and popular. You DO get a lot for your money. But it is saved somewhere. That is remedied, most of the time, by their great customer service. I think their reputation may precede them at times and leads people to expect more than may be feasible at any one price point. I understand that's kind of a broad comment and may not apply to your situation.

Ftr i have a vortex and for what i needed it's good. I hope there is a legitimate problem and it comes back satisfactory.

I just bought the exact same scope from Arrowsmith, but haven't been able to get the old base off my rifle to mount it (loctited screws). When I do, I'll check out the issue and chime in again.........I don't seem to notice it when just looking through the scope, though.

I have 4 vipers that range from 3.5-12 to 6.5-20. I have not had an issue with any except the 20 power. They got a lil hazy on the edge out past 16 power but nothing that is as you described. Both scopes I have that are 4.5-16 are great. One on my 270 and one on my 300 Win Mag. The 300 scope is a 44 and is awesome. My 270 is a 50 and I have not sighted it in yet. Will be done this weekend. I have seen no issues with it at all working it on the bench setting it up.

Vortex will make it right. They have the best support in the industry.

Well, the thing that gets me is just about every review I've read has talked about how great the scopes work, how clear they are, awesome quality,etc.... Honestly I've had a lot cheaper scopes with better clarity through all the power ranges. I hope Vortex is able to fix it, because other than the haziness, it's a nice scope.

This is exactly why I tell everybody that to play at the high magnification ranges, you have to have good glass. Vortex has only 1 scope that I would consider a contender at anything above 12-14 power and it's a $2k scope.

It does sound like yours has issues and Vortex will fix it but don't expect it to be as bright and clear as a scope that costs twice the money.

From everything I have hear they will either fix it or replace it. They also offer upgrades a lot. I have PST 6-24x50 FFP at high mag it is clear but the eye box is kind of picky...

When using the side focus is it fuzzy at all ranges? Does the reticle stay sharp? When the picture is fuzzy is there a lot of parallax?

Yeah, it will not focus, and the reticle does get fuzzy. I'm not expecting German quality optics, but for a $600.00 scope, I expect a lot better quality than what I got. I'm confident they will take care of it. If they don't, I won't be buying anymore of their products.

I have a 4-16 Vortex PST and very late in the day at 16 power I can tell a difference between it and a VX-III Leupold. As well I should be able to. For some reason everyone want's to compare this scope to a Leupold. I will say at 16x it's a bit picky on eye relief.

It's a great scope for the money but not a Leupold. The price difference is considerable...There's no way I can buy a 4-16x50mm with a 30mm tube, side focus, Illuminated reticle and target knobs for $699 from Leupold. The prices rises dramatically from there for every little bit of improvement in glass quality.

Good luck and I hope they get it fixed for you.
