I'd go the savage route, but my remmy 710 is one heck of a truck gun with that
      2-7 vx1 sitting on top.

I have shot many a Remington's and owned a savage axis .223. For the price I paid for the axis and the scope I put on it, it was awesome. Here's a hundred yard group with the axis I had, no trigger job and a BSA contender scope.

I had no complaints about the savage

I have seen many Savages out shoot Remingtons although I like them both. Do you have any Factual data to back up your statement? I have also heard good things about the Ruger.

I know, that wasn't directed at you. any of the rifles you are looking for will fit the bill for what you are looking for.

Savage rifles may shoot just as well as the Remington but I just plain prefer the Remington and don't mind paying just a little more for them.

That being said my recommendation is the 700 ADL.

that sucker shoots a ragged hole at 100 yds.
it ain't pretty but it performs
                                Yep this ^^
I got the 100 ATR in .308 3 seasons back and it has become my favorite rifle of all time. Get it at academy and trash the cheap scope they come with and put something nice on there. Mine shoots clover leaf at 100 yards with silver box Winchester. Smooth action, decent trigger and a maintenance free finish. It's all about function, not beauty but that fluted barrel looks pretty cool to me.
