I wouldn't use a 243 of any kind if I was trying to shoot directly thru the shoulders. Why ruin all that meat? Neck shot or behind the shoulders and let the air out of em all day long. Corelokt gets my vote until I have to use more than one shot.

My Dad reloaded the Hornady 100grn btsp in the 6mm that I used as a kid. We killed 100's of deer with this bullet and never had a failure. I now reload it in my wife's 243. Still working wonderful. Drops deer quick. I think you can get this bullet in the Federal brand. Good luck.

I use Federal Premium 100 gr. My 243 is pretty much my go to gun for hunting deer, pigs, and or anything that can be shot legally. The premium 100 gr. is dead on and a tack driver in my rifle..

This. Great factory round. I shoot them in a 243, 7mm-08, and 308. All three love that round.

Most .243's stabilize 85g bullets better than 100g bullets as I recall. In my 700 Remmy, accuracy with 85g's is much better.

I've always used winchester 100gr super-x. never had a problem with it and have killed numerous animals with it.

I shoot the Barnes Vor-tx 80 grain tipped Triple shock ammunition in my .243. Killed a pronghorn at 250 yds, dropped on the spot. Sub MOA groups at 100yds. Killed several whitetail. My daughter shot her first doe with it last week. She asked me when her deer was hanging, why is mine bleeding so much compared to the other kids deer?? Because you shot it with a Barnes I said. Look at the picture. Both deer hanging were double lung shot at about 100yds.

Gander Mountain in Round Rock has them in stock as of yesterday.

Don't mess around with anything else. My $.02...

Mine really likes the Federal Premium 85gr BTHP. They hold a really tight group and get the job done.

This has been a great bullet for me but it's getting hard to find.

For all the love of the Fed Fusion, it's basically a revamped Speer Hot Core which is a great bullet that's been around for a LOOOONNNNG time.

                                Best of luck to you.

BTW-I've shot many a deer with an 80 grain Rem psp. It fragments violently like a varmint bullet and will rarely exit the chest. I don't recomend it for really large deer or very long shots. But on average sized deer at 200 yards or less they're DRT!
