I was interested in these for my daughter. Hornady told me they where not intended for game. But Sierra will tell you the same about a Match King. And I've senna those dirt many critters!

Using a varmint round like a 58gr out of a .243 with exceptional speed is like a .22-250 on steroids shooting a 52gr HP or VMAX. Don't use these flat shooting bullets on deer if you don't want a deer to drop in its tracks. 100% of the energy is transferred and their chest cavity will be vaporized.

Use magnum loads to get pass through where the deer at least have a chance to run and you can use your tracking skills.

I had concerns about the bullet staying together until I shot 3-4 hogs with them. The first animal I killed with them was a sow around 130 lbs. I shot her square in the shoulder just to see what kind of penetration the bullet would get. Upon impact she went chest to the ground and bulldozed about 20 feet. I had gotten a complete pass thru and her chest cavity looked like something out of a horror movie. My kids have shot them ever since and zero lost animals.

X2. The 115gr shoot great out of my son's Rossi single shot...nothing but hogs so far...pencil sized entry hole, the other side of the head looks like a grenade went off...dead right there.

I just got 3 boxes of 90gr Nosler Acubonds in. I've been shooting 95 gr Ballistic Silvertips a long time but I think this new Acubond will be very good once I find the right load

Question fellas. Is that 75 grain Remington Accutip a deer bullet or varmint ?

I'd opt for something that gets a little more penetration. Heck, if you are a tad bit off with a .243 Win you can end up in trouble really quick. I seriously doubt that bullet would punch through a shoulder if you inadvertently shot a deer there. Not to mention this bullet has a crappy sectional density and ballistic coefficient. If I were to buy loaded cartridges, I would go with the Hornady Superformance 80 grain gmx. I personally hand load Speer 85 grain btsp (ballistic coefficient of .404) and push them at 3250 fps. Puts hogs, deer, and yotes on their butt. I shoot that bullet because I want the flexibility to easily kill any of the prior mentioned species.

                        243 deer bullet

Ew!!!! Found some 87 grain Berger VLD's from HSM Ammo!!!!

They had em listed at 3267fps. Of course that speed will vary from barrel to barrel.

Actually a field test where I did miss with a quick shot and had to take out a cull. Ended up shooting it in the shoulder. It broke the front leg with a 52gr HP and went through the shoulder blade. Still dropped in its tracks, but kicked for a few seconds versus the normal instant expiration.

Before modern firearms and incredible loads, they were killing deer with spears that evolved to muskets. If a deer gets hit, it will probably kill it. The question is HOW fast and does it drop in its tracks, or does it run a little.

I like the drop in the tracks and doesn't move. I agree with you on the shoulder is not the ideal shot with this round, but it still performed excellent. As with archery, there are the sweet spots to shoot and spots not to shoot.

So you are getting drt's with these bullets? Asking once again for my little girl. I'm a guru on bigger bore. Not so much on small bore.
