I bought this rifle 7 years ago for a little of nothing and have always enjoyed shooting her but didn't use it for anything. About a week ago I decided it was time to change her up and make her mine. I knew I wanted to shorten the barrel and add optics but also have the option of iron sights.Click image for larger version

I cut the barrel down from 25 to 20.5, I used a hacksaw and a hose clamp as a guide.

I had full intentions of mounting a front ramp and blade sight but the more I looked at the original the more I thought about saving money.

So using the closest size bit I could find and some oversized channel locks I got to work to make the ID of the sight match up with the new OD of the barrel. After the bit I went to work with a file to match the taper a little better.

After I sandblast the barrel and action I will pin and epoxy the sight at its new location.

Tomorrow I will be sandblasting and over the weekend get the sight mounted. Hopefully Sunday I will get the metal coated. For coating I am using alumahyde.Click image for larger version

The color is stainless steel gray. I think it is going to look good with the new stock set.

Looks like a nice project. Definitely like reusing the original front sight. Looking forward to seeing how that finish looks

so i was pretty set on putting a scout mount on this rifle but XS is the only one made and you have to epoxy it to the barrel. The more i think about it the less appealing it sounds. What is y'alls thought on this?

if i mount a scope above the reciever it is going to be a 1x4 class of scope.

IN! I took my zebra in RSA with an Enfield that was rebarreled/chambered in .308. Great gun.

I vote to just use the iron sights and keep it as original as you can. You've already made it more to you're liking with cutting the barrel.

If I were to put a scope on it, I'd also look at something in the 1/1-5 - 4 or 6 realm too

I am curious to see how that coating works out. Might have to try it.
