Love my Marlin Guide Gun. Mine is an older model with the ported barrel. The 45-70 is plain fun to shoot. I like the 405 grain bullets.

405 grain factory mild ammo is easy on the shoulder but still gets the job done on Texas animals. They arc like a volley ball and they fly so slow you can hear distinct pow-thump for each shot.

It is like throwing a cast iron skillet at an animal, and you can eat right up to the hole like an arrow because the meat is not all blood blasted up like a high velocity round will do.

I took my new 45-70 to the lease and the pigs must have heard I was coming, none to be found. I brought some 300 gr core locks to shoot it with. I didn't get the chance because they weren't cycling in it, failing to extract and not going all the way into battery. Any experts out there? It's a used rifle but it sure looks new. Maybe an ammo issue. Thanks Kevin

I'm not an expert, but I've upgraded the lever, ejector and trigger in mine- kinda like I stated at a Holiday Inn Express.

You describe 2 different problems- failing to go into battery and failing to eject a spent (or hit) round. Be more specific.

I think I've figured it out. Just cycling rounds the extractor doesn't hook the rim every time that I cycle it, when it doesn't, it stops short of battery. I believe the extractor is bent or weak. I'll call Carters Country tomorrow and see if they'll repair it.

Mine didn't give me trouble but I upgraded the ejector with the machined steel one from Wild West Guns. I never had a problem with the extractor.

Well took it to Carters country gun shop on I10 on monday and the gunsmith said the chamber was rough and he would polish it at no charge. I picked it up today and it cycles just as slick as can be. The chamber shines like a new penny. Carters stood by it so good on them. I'll let you know it shoots, Kevin
