    Carry at work question....

policies are policies, i understand that. i know there are lots of gray areas out there today. i clearly read on the included page where it says i can't carry, even though i am licensed to do so. without going to HR or whoever else and arousing suspicion, what is your take on this ? NO signs are posted anywhere on the premises. is this standard practice for public companies today as a deterrent, although it is actually "legal" to carry, or, am i committing a sin if i bring a firearm to work ?

i believe you would be commiting a sin with your employer but not breaking any laws assuming the areas you carrry are legal to carry in

They've communicated no guns in writing (verbal is also acceptable).
        No carrying on their property.

If they had not communicated this to you, you would be able to (provided no legal signs are posted)

I think this is one of those you're legal to carry, but can lose your job areas. Not 100% though.

If its in your companies handbook then IF you get caught then you can be fired. At least thats what it says in our handbook

Look at Section 30.06 of Texas Penal Code. Specifically, look at the requirements of the written notice under 30.06 (c)(3)(A) and (B).

P.S. you may still get fired. The legislature has been again working on weapons in cars at place of employment, but who knows how that will come out. Also, the written notice isn't sufficient for criminal purposes, but if verbal warning given there could be a problem

This is what I do (they have some nice safes out there). I work for a mortgage company, and it's against policy to carry inside the building, but there is nothing about the parking lot - they just stated that they abide by all state laws when it comes to carrying while not inside the building. Definatly not worth the job loss, but go help out the economy and buy a safe!

Do private property owners have the right to exclude license holders from their property?

                        Yes.
Private property owners may give notice excluding license holders from carrying concealed handguns. Official Notice must comply with state mandates as described below.

My understanding since it it your place of work, written polices make it illegal to carry. Just like if I tell you, dont carry at my house. I dont have to post a 30.06 sign to stop you.

As of September 1, 2011, employers that own parking lots/garages may no longer ban employees from storing firearms in their vehicles on their property. This pertains to BOTH CHL and non-CHL holders.
