Those work fine when a guy figures out the exact holdovers. But I don't care to guess at where I'll hit. Between guessing and emotions of buck fever etc, your hunt could go to crap tracking a wounded animal quick.

And I have a leupold vx3lr on my 308. 9.7 moa at 500 yards with what I'm currently shooting. That is almost 25" of drop.... Quick turn of the turret put it right on the money.

But most guys forget wind. Your elevation may be perfect. Then the wind may drift one into the gut....

My suggestion, stick with the 7mm. Get a scope that has target turrets and do it right. You don't spend all the time and money to get an elk in your cross hairs to make a "quick" 500 yard shot. It takes two seconds to turn a turret. And don't forget about wind....

Target shooting is one thing. But the suggestions made here for shooting at an animal are rediculous.
My suggestion was to stick with the 7mm. But mpb works .so does finding range the .way.suggested. And i do have 1 pin to 40 yards 2" low at .20 2" high at 40. Works with rifle as well if he barely fills up reticle aim at top of vitalls if he is close aim low in vitals its fast and easy just know your gun. I have flipped many a critter this way.

This allows you to make shots to 500 yards in under a couple seconds with a flat shooting rifle. To each there own but when i put down my bow its all about straight up killing and killing quick with whatever opprotunity i get
I know i did it for years. But with custom turrets to ur load and ur rifle its lightening fast as well. And you are dead on. I used MPB for years on my 270. After custom turrets being made i will never ever go back to mpb. Ever.

And at long range. 500-600 plus you take ur time or pass. If a guy only shoots 300-450 yards all the time. He takes his time or he passes. That simple.

It works for me and when using a rifle I honestly don't care if I am 2" high or low. I don't enjoy compensating for 25" 0f drop and past about 450 the variations in the wind make things no fun. In the western states especially Wyoming the wind to be blowing 10 at your location and 40 at the Elks location. this is my last post to this thread because we are high hacking badly.

Not gonna argue no more. Proceed sir.

If you want the 338 go for it awesome tried and true round. Hi BC's and there is alot more to it than the cool factor. It is the real deal at long range.
