Thats good to know, that is usually where I stop anyways since I don't have a torque screwdriver. I used to torque the hell out of them when I was younger and dumber then started to do some research and I was over tightening them.

I'm looking around for a torque screwdriver. It seems to be a tool I'll use once every few years however.

I agree with the technician and get a mounting kit to sand inside of mount rings for a good fit

Using oil is an anti seize application...

Wheeler Fat Wrench... Look no further.

You will be surprised how often you can use it. Everytime to you take down a rifle, mount a scope, do some shade tree gun smithing. I use mine weekly

I use a small application of clear fingernail polish on my scope mounting screws and also on bow sights screws and rest i have not had a problem in over 20 years of using it and it can be broke loose if you ever have to remove the screws.

I always use the blue loctite too. Never had any problems and still pretty easy to take off with a little elbow grease.

I've never really used Loctite on screws until I mounted a scope on a long range rifle and didn't want anything to move once I got it where I wanted.

I have been guilty of over tightening and no lock tight all my life. This only caused trouble when needing to remove a scope years later. Only screw I ever had come loose was the wind age adjustment screw on a Loupy base. I no longer used bases with adjustment.

For Christmas I asked for and got a scope mounting kit.

I now lap all my rings and torque to spec with lock tight.

My friend, who left Cali 3 years ago and swore he'd never come back- came back for a friend's Memorial service. He's a gunsmith and retire Navy gunners mate, small arms expert.

He said get everything surgically clean, and he didn't use anything in the threads, just his torque screwdriver to 25 and 30 inch pounds- he said his experience is it works the best.

                        Here's the finished product-

Here's a 450 round next to a .223. I've rolled 150 pound pigs before they hit the dirt! I guess it should, it's meant for grizzly bears!
