    Smith & Wesson Serial Number

Does anyone know if there is a place to look up a S&W revolver serial number to find out when it was made or have to ability to look it up? I have a Model 13 I am thinking about selling and prices are all over the place depending on exactly what it is. I bought the gun in either 1985 or 86, can't remember exactly. I'm rating this one in excellent condition per the NRA. I you can help I'll PM the serial number.

You can PM me or post the number here. Just use XX for the last two numbers as they won't matter anyhow. I'll look it up for you. It looks like a 3" barrel. That's a popular model right now.

If you are planning a trip to DFW and price is affordable, I'll take it.

Those and the 65 are all over the board, no clue why but I do carry a 3" 65 and want a matching 13.

Seen the 3" 65 for $299 and next table over at show is $650.

        Lowest I've seen is $219 on a table of 12-15 PD trade-ins.

The Blue Book that I have, shows the value to be from 100%@$450 ,98% @ $375, 95% @$275, 90% @ $200......I know that books don't buy guns, but this will give you an idea of it's value.

This one won't go that low. If I were to sell around $400 my son wants it but I'm probably going to see what the market brings. Honestly unless I can get top dollar for it I'll probably keep it and continue to carry it.

I have read of people paying up to $700 for them but I want to be realistic.

I'd give $400 If it's as clean as you say, and get it to Ft Worth.

$400 won't buy it, sorry. As stated for that my son wants it but I'm going to ask more based on my research. For that I may just keep it. The only marks on the gun are seen on the cylinder where the indentions are that advance the cylinder. No marks on the sharp edges or barrel. No bluing missing at all.

                Larry thanks for the info.

I probably wasn't entirely clear. Thanks it's nice to have a 1986 model in this condition.

Yeh I'm going to look around for a lighter gun for my wife but I may end up keeping this one and just add another for here. It compliments my 1984 Model 19 so well. Wish the 19 was as in good a shape.
