Lets look at it with a open mind..

          DHS purchases..

9 million dollars in parts over 5 years from Sig and HK
          1.6 billion round purchase order
2717 Maxxpro MRAP's being retro fitted..
50 million dollars in new uniforms
          7000 new select fire weapons

All I can say is DHS is growing fast...

Do we have any scale on what they have purchased over the past decade?? In other words, is this par for the course or is it just recently to see these sort of buys??

I understand it is growing & covers a broad scope of LE, but wow...

Pretty sure the Guard falls under DHS...just surpising to see these numbers with nobody reporting any previous history of buys??

BP & US Customs are also under DHS...the sequestration has cut back the lanes at all POE's here along the border by about 20-30%!! If nothing happens in April, we are looking at a 50% staff reduction!! You have any idea how that will affect our area??

Why the big pinch on man hours but a huge spend on products?? I'm just asking here...

I'm wondering if that's even 10% of what they spend on gas and other consumables. Heck they probably go through a million dollars of printer ink a year. Sounds like a lot , but is it? Any comparison to say a large metro PD?

Dang almost seems like DHS is going to war with somebody. 1.6 billion rounds is enough ammo to sustain a hot war for 20 yrs. Wonder who that could be that they are gonna wage war on?

Border Patrol, that is where all this stuff needs to be put to use. There are plenty of cuts that need to be made but not on our borders. We definitely need more manpower there, and laws with teeth. But they love not securing our borders, so that will never happen.
