Except for two of the best Wilson and STI.

My Sig 1911 is fantastic but if your willing to put the money down I would go with a Wilson, high end STI, or collector Colt.

There are several great out there. Those would be my pick of the litter.

I have five 1911's (3 colts, 1ithaca A1 and the TBH sti). I am a huge fan of the original colt 1911. Great reliable weapon that will not go down in value.

I looked at a couple in the $800 before tax range. The 2 i liked were the Taurus pt1911 ar and the Desert Eagle 1911. Just my thoughts. My brother has the taurus 1911 al i think it is, and its a nice pistol. Just my thoughts. The taurus 1911 ar i have seen for $689 and the Desert Eagle for $799. my thoughts. Good luck

My Dan Wesson is awesome. Everyone who picks it up quietly says, "Wow." I still haven't let anyone else shoot it yet!

I picked up a uramex regent100 last night at academy. Price tag was $429. It's a Turkish made gun but got great reviews and seems to be well made. The Turks won me over with my yildiz over-under so I figured I'd give there 1911 a try.

I own Colts, S&W's and Springfields. All are great guns and none will let you down.

Taurus PT1911 is a great option for under $600.

Id recomend getting one with a light rail, just makes it much more useful imo. I have colts wouldnt mind an STI. Whatever you choose make sure you only get really high quality mags for it.

                            Without going custom:

                            Dan Wesson
                            Colt
                            STI
                            Springfield

                            In that order.

Mike D - not wilson is that list? So here's my question, since I really don't know 1911's that well what are you paying for besides the name? I understand that some may have more or better polishing done internally that makes everything operate smoother... Other than that I've heard you can take a cheaper remington 1911 for example, and take it apart, polish the hail out of everything, replace and few things and have a pretty sweet and smooth shooting 1911... Is most of these 1911 parts mill spec stuff? Or is there that big of difference between manufacturing like (example) a rem 700 action compared to a stiller action...

I love my STI! I do like the Wilson's though, but if I get another .45 I think I'm gonna look at an STI lawman.
