My elk took two steps after I pulled the trigger. Great cartridge.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/308Win.htm You can take down any animal up to a moose under 1000 pounds.

Get it in a Remington 700 or a savage 10 or Stevens 200

Anything on this continent, it is all about the shot placement and bullet construction.

Anything shy of a bear. All it takes is good shot placement and the right bullet.

                        yep....

but i can tell you, if your hunting a grizzly or something you may NEED some knockdown power, a 308 would NOT be what i want to have in my hands.

deer, elk, smaller bears, caribou, a 308 will make quick work of those
It will do moose, shot placement is key. Id put it in the neck.
I hate that answer when talking about the effective killing power of a cartridge. Not singling you out but it drives me nuts. "The .25-06 is great for elk, I shoot em in the neck and they drop every time." Well duh....., by that reasoning, a .223 is a superb elk cartridge too. Just do neck shots When talking about the effectiveness of a caliber on game it generally means putting one in the boiler room

Again LB, not calling you out, just a pet peeve of mine

no one has mentioned distance. On the larger animals you will just need to be a bit closer to have enough power remaining. smaller game you should have enough power at slightly longer distances.

May be a military round easy to find in years to come vs other calibers.
