I've had my Ruger SR 1911 since the start of bow season and finally shot it. Boy was I an idiot for not shooting it sooner. I'll be looking for another sr 1911 for a spare now.

I'd have to see that up close. That Ruger SR 1911 shoots really well.

Sig 1911R. It is right around the $1000 price range. It's a match grade weapon with a duty ready design. You won't be displeased.

There are many great options to choose from. The most important thing is reliability which should be your main priority.

There is a range review out there where they shot the Remington and the ruger from a ransom rest at 25 yards. Remington shot like 1.5" something and ruger shot around 1.7". I don't think you can go wrong with either. Pic below was shot at 7 yrds off sandbags. It was pretty quick shooting since I had 30 min to shoot. Middle group is .71". Second pic is offhand 7 yards and 13 shots.

I'll not be one to say anything bad about the 1911 but opinions are like orafices so here is mine.

If your profile is current, I see it shows you as a cadet graduate. Do you have an idea of where you will be going to work? Make certain the 1911 is approved for carry in the area you are planning to work. Many departments issue guns and even more have a list of approved weapons. We are not allowed to carry a 1911, or any single action only platform for that matter. I love the feel of a 1911 and my Sig 226 gets me in the vacinity. Just throwing this out there because it would be bad to drop good money on a gun that can't be carried.

As for a 1911, I personally have a Springfield Loaded. It has a commander hammer, beaver tail grip safety and a skeletonized hammer with forward cocking serrations. The gun shoots better than me.

having actually carried colts for nearly 30 years on duty, i have never layed my hands on a better gun ,, and i worked part time in a gun shop and was a range officer for over 25 years,,,, so i do have lots of experiance with all kinds... there are several that may be as good, just never found better

One more vote for the Ruger. Absolutely love mine.

If I were on duty carrying, a 15-shot g22 double action sounds much better than 8 shots and single action!

If this is going to be a duty weapon, then why deviate from colt? theyre $750 all day long, errr pre stupid crazy idiot prices. Sprinfield is the next one id do.
