Just curious,

How many of ya'll keep a round in the chamber?

If you do why? With what type of gun?

if theres not a round in the chamber there is no reason to carry,,
over the last 32 years ive carried several different 1911's a couple of browning hi powers, a couple of smith and wessons and a kahr, on and off duty,,,

I'm in the minority. Especially since most carry guns don't have a safety, I'm of the opinion that it's more dangerous to carry hot. I'm not keeping a loaded gun pointed at my goods all day every day. If you practice and know what you're doing, it takes one second to rack the slide and draw. These "club" comments are rather ridiculous. Now if I have to be in a sketchy neighborhood, the gun will be hot. But day to day? No. You can't have an accident with an empty chamber, and a gun that's otherwise ready to go is infinitely better than no gun at all. (or a club)

You do know guns go off when you pull the trigger right? They don't just randomly decide to shoot.

If you don't carry with one in the chamber than you aren't comfortable enough with your weapon. Once you become proficient and comfortable, you'll understand that your gun doesn't just randomly fire

your more likely to hurt yourself, if your not practiced enough or carrying a quality weapon thats stays loaded and ready than letting a neighborhood determine if the gun is hot or not... and i seen more than one gun used as a club,, i did it once,, very effective upside the head,, his lights went out and his party was over..... at the moment that occurred, i would not have been justified shooting him, knocking him out was sufficent, and yes that gun was loaded cocked and locked, safety on and finger off the trigger....
please dont carry if you dont know what your doing,, because the chances of getting it ready to go are not in your favor

1911 cocked and locked. We all know it takes less than a second to rack the slide back right after the draw, but time isn't the only variable. What happens if you miss your grip on the slide, your hands are slippery, or you don't get a good complete cycle with you rack the slide and the slide just rides back over the top round in the mag? That's all in addition to the fact that one in the pipe is just one more round of carrying capacity. Also, consider the potential that if you're in a fight for you life, your off hand may be unavailable to you. Maybe the perp has a hold of it, maybe you're using it to block his advance while you draw, maybe you're pinned against a wall and can't get the second hand around to rack the slide....if you've got on in the pipe, it's draw, defeat the safety (if so equipped), point and squeeze.

I will admit to carrying my glock with no round in the chamber. I think if I dont have enough time to rack the slide I prob wouldnt have enough time to draw the weapon. I will also say I almost never carry and that may be why I am uneasy about it.
