I know the Nightforce scopes are built hell for stout but I'm not sure about the quality if the glass in them. Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to shoot through one.
Let me get my rifle back from the smith and you can try one out.
The Huskemaw with custom turrets for your gun and load is hard to beat and within your budget. I would stay away from the Vortex unless you go with their hi end, and if your going to spend that much go with Night Force.
The Mark 4 uses VX3 glass. They just get more into Mil Dot reticles and exposed turrets.

NF quality is way up there. I had my NXS and Vortex PST next to each other on my last deer hunt right at dusk. The Vortex clouded out at civil twilight and the Nightforce stayed clear until after dark. I say go Nightforce.
Looks like the big buy is the S&B 5X25X56 police marksman first focal plane that was mentioned in the earlier post for the 338 Lapua. One scope down, three more to go..
Yeah I wont buy vortex... they arent quality enough for me until you get in their high end stuff, then for that price you can just go with a leupold of nightforce.

I will put any Leupold up against the same priced Vortex and the Vortex will beat it every time for the money.
Leupold sells $200 scopes just like Vortex. The fact that you get more scope with the $200 Vortex is what makes them great.
AND I guarantee you run over your $1500 Leupold on accident and send it in to get it fixed they are going to fixed it and send you a bill to do it. You know what Vortex will do/ they send you a new scope. Thats it.
What is quality??? Quality is brands such as leupold where their lowest end $250 3X9 scope is the best 3X9 you can buy.
Vortex low end sucks. I agree with that. But IMO so does a vxii or vxi and the rifleman really sucks.
It's your money brotha. Spend it how you want. But you need to look at the pst. I could buy any scope on the market. ANY. But I don't find the need to spend a ton of cash on a scope when I can spend 700-1000 and it work just fine. I seriously like the vortex dang near as much as the NXS. But yes their low end sucks bad. Pst or higher is all I'd buy. And my 8.5-25x50 vxiii LR isn't a slouch either.

I have to disagree Japan glass versus German glass, German glass wins. And I have both. And if I ran over my scope I would not expect the manufacture fix it for free.
What makes the PST a bang for the buck is the repeatability and return to zero the PST offers with the high speed uncapped turrets. Glass is OK with the PST, but the same priced Leupold ($650-800 range) is better glass at that price point (but you don't get the target turrets and "tactical" features).
