Texas looking to go Lead Free for Dove?

I got an email from BOSS shotshells that contained lots of info on several topics, but most interesting what their statement that the State of Texas is looking into outlawing lead for doves. Have any of yall heard any of this from other sources?

Quick Google search shows tpwd has been studying it for years.

I carry #7 steel when ever I duck hunt, for snipe, and for doves during the late dove season.

I’ve got enough lead to last me as long as I’m able to dove hunt. I’ll keep using it.

I suppose the critters that are eating cripples are getting lead poisoning. Maybe the song birds are getting lead poisoning from the lead shot that lands on the ground.

I've had really good results hunting dove with steel. It patterns better than lead in all my shotguns, and there are more pellets in the same load. I also would prefer to not blast my food with lead before my friends and family eat it.

What brand of shells do you use? And where do you source them?

Good to know. I picked up 16 boxes of 12ga 7 1/2 steel and was not sure what I was going to use it for. A little too small for ducks.

Its pretty easy to pick out when cleaning them, and if you chomp one later, just spit it out.
Thx TPWD, more regs for you and your little field cronies to nitpick over.

Don’t go throwing Common Sense around in here

the cost of steel will shut down a lot of hunters who just can not afford it . The cost of lead is outrageous enough already . It sounds like there are a lot of tree huggers on here ( harvesters ) .

The cost difference in steel and lead is so minimal that anyone who has to give up dove hunting due to that increased cost doesn't have enough money to spent to hunt in the first place. Of course there are those that will say they shoot 1000 shells a year at dove and then again, if they are shooting that many lead shots, they should be able to afford steel no problem
