    Big bores for hogs…

I recently bought a 444 on a recent trip to Wyoming to go with my Marlin 45-70…
Both are ported… I mounted two 1-4 firedot variables on them…
I plan on using them some for hogs…

Sweet guns. I've been kicking around the idea of a bolt action large caliber to suppress for hogs.

I realize some folks aren't as OCD as i am about their rifles but word of caution... Those bullet sleeves on the butt can allow the bullets to leave some impressions/gouges in the stock. I did that on grandpas 30-06 the day dad gave it to me.

I’ve used these sleeves for many years and never had a problem… The 444 had an old ragged one on it.. when I bought it at that gun shop in Wyoming… It looked like new underneath… 👍

My buddys story on shooting pigs. He said he was bad about pointing and shooting with his 4570. He said it was like throwing a brick at 1800fps. But after watching several pigs get flat knocked over and then get back up and run off he sold it. Said it hurt him worse then them

              Always cracked me up.

Just like any gun… You still have to use the right ammo and you still have to hit the right spot… If they are gut shot.. it doesn’t matter what they are hit with… They running…😁

i used to have a ported marlin 45/70 .. shot a big hog at a feeder with it , went through it and clear through thick wall feeder leg afterwards... 45/70 hits hard but it's unpleasant on both ends and the bc of the bullets makes it a bad choice for longer range , loved the look but ended up selling it

You can’t be recoil sensitive… I hunt thick brush and spots where 200 yards are maximum range… I’ve been retired for 8 years and killing big boar pigs has been my hobby… I have properties that lots of pigs move thru… And I’ve taken lots… I use mainly 308.. 300 win mag.. 45-70.. and even play with a couple rifled barrel shotguns and sabot slugs…

If you reload, look up Paco Kelly's writings on the 444. He preferred it to the 45-70. And his loads are not for the faint of heart or weak of shoulder. The 444 is a cast bullet dream. I have killed a few pigs with the Lee 310 grain gas check flat point bullet. I've had entry holes I could stick my fist in. If you like the AR 15, a 458 Socom is pretty effective, but the 450 Bushmaster is no slouch either. I like the fact that big bore heavy slugs, cast or jacketed, make critters leak out of both sides. Makes tracking easier.

The last boar hog a shot with my 45-70.. was with a 405 grain jacketed bullet.. Buffalo Bore… It’s kinda overkill…
I got some 265 gr Hornady leverlution I plan plan on trying out…

My great uncle in Tennessee carried a .444 Marlin every where he went. He said it seemed like there were too many bears with a bad attitude around his farm. I know he had killed a bunch with it as well as a lot of deer. That gun looked like it had been drug behind his truck but he had great faith in it putting a bear down.
