    Inconsistent groups with suppressor

Just got back a tikka that I sent off to have rebarrelled / chambered into a 6creed. When I put my YHM resonator on it groups open up to literally 3-4 inches at 100 yards. Without the can it’s getting consistent sub MOA groups. I’ve got 3 of these resonators and have tried them all on the gun and my groups look like buckshot…. Been shooting suppressed bolt guns since 2019 and have never had this issue. I’m not having any baffle strikes. What am I missing ???? 🤦🏻

Is it a lighter bbl?? Sounds like bad harmonics if you are certain of no strikes.

Is the bbl floated?? Maybe try some forearm pressure if it is.

it’s a fairly light contour but not any lighter than my other tikkas that I’ve had threaded. Yeah the barrel is free floated and not making contact anywhere

Make sure you have plenty of barrel clearance. Just because it’s not touching when you’re holding it doesn’t mean it doesn’t touch when you flex the forend or when the barrel whips. There’s also a chance the threads aren’t concentric and you are barely clipping a baffle even though it doesn’t look like you are getting baffle strikes.

Are you running direct thread or with a muzzle device?

Its the original yhm resonator so I’m limited to QD mounts only

Either buy or find someone with a range rod. I had a pistol once that the bullets would just nick the compensator. It went from shooting five inch groups to one inch groups at 25 yards once the problem was fixed.

The longer the barrel the more harmonics come into play especially with a light contour. Adding suppressor length is adding a lot to the barrel length and weight out front. You can try some different loads and bullet weights that might help.

These would both be my first checks. I’ve seen a few strikes that were so minimal you couldn’t tell on the can. Being that you’re running a lighter weight barrel I’m assuming there’s a decent chance you’re either running a thread adapter from 1/2 or 9/16 up to 5/8? Or you’re running less shoulder than recommended? Both can contribute to less than ideal conditions.

It’s a preferred barrel blank and 18”… it’s a light “hybrid” so it slightly flares towards the muzzle and is threaded 5/8-24

For sh**s and giggles try swapping mounts on it.

Does cleaning it seem to improve accuracy? I know on my suppressed .22mag I notice once I put a lot of rounds through it the groups start opening up. The first several shots from a cleaned rifle barrel are all in the same hole. Im not sure if that is the issue for me but its something I have been chasing.

yeah that’s my next step . Gonna pull a qd off a known accurate gun

Doesn’t matter if it’s clean or dirty .. screw my can on and it turns into a shotgun

My Ruger American Predator 308 did something similar. It loved factory 165gr Fusions. Got my suppressor, SIG SRD762ti-qd, and suddenly the groups opened up to 1.5-2”. Played around with other factory ammo I had but all 165gr and no joy. Bought a box of federal blue box 150s and it shot them just fine.

Why? No idea. Clearly harmonics or something changed with it with the addition of the suppressor. I now handload 150gr soft points for it, never have gone back to play around with the 165s, and it shoots them phenomenally. So I’d say switch up your ammo, try some different grain weight and bullet styles. See if it just changed it’s appetite and now prefers something else.
