    Ruger American GEN2

Anyone seen these yet? Fluted and ceracoated. Look really nice. Was about to buy a howa mini action 6.5 Grendel, but that gen 2 ranch may be what I need

My only experience is with a 223 ranch. Sold it and never looked back.

Can’t go wrong with the Howa Mini, that I can say with confidence.

I will probably end up picking one up in 7mm-08 or something. I love my Predator 308, so I’m sure these will be solid shooters as well. Something tells me the price will be the drawback though. One reason I love my Predator, outside the pretty decent trigger and the 3/4” groups it shoots, is the fact that I paid $450 for it.

I just saw this gen 2 last night. Looks nice, however there is something to be said for the roughness of the original American and the price point. The Gen 2 seems like a lot of fluff that won’t improve much of the function.

on the plus side, maybe I can pick up an OG American even cheaper now.

A ton of value. Looks like a winner.

Yep I will have one in .308. Waiting a bit and hope to see it available in the Ranch model really want a 16" to run with my Sandman.

I have a Ruger go wild with 16.5” in 6.5 CM that I only use with a suppressor. Also changed trigger spring and bolt handle

works perfectly for my casual deer and pig killing

if I didn’t have that, I would be ordering a Gen II now.

                Thanks for that link.

Field and Stream has a glowing review of Ruger American Gen II on their website.

The brand-new Ruger American Gen II rifle performed very well in our hands-on testing. It should prove as popular as the original.

They are already offering it in “ranch” configuration. Only a few calibers available right now.

I will have to go back a look again, I did not see .308 offered in the Ranch when I looked online. Thanks

I’m sure Ruger will sell quite a few of them, but IMO this is just putting lipstick on a pig. Aside from some minor upgrades to the stock, everything else is pretty much cosmetic. At sub $400, the Americans were a pretty good value, but when you get above $600, there are much better quality rifles out there for not much more money. The Americans are very accurate for what they are, but that’s about it. The actions are very rough, triggers are awful, stocks are cheap plastic, the Ruger rotary mags suck(Some are AI or AR mags, which is a huge upgrade), etc. Fluting and Cerakote is cool, but in that price range, you’re better off spending money on more functional upgrades IMO.

While I agree with you on the price point, I disagree on most other points.

I’ve got a Predator in 308. My action is nice and smooth, when it was brand new it had the zipper noise, but with a light coat of 10w-30 synthetic oil(what I mainly use for all my lubrication needs) it was quiet as can be. Now it’s broken in and even dry makes no noise. Trigger is just fine, I did polish mine and change out the spring. Trigger pull was so light it would fire as soon as I took up the blade safety, so I turned it back up to about 2lb. It was sub 1lb with 5 minutes of polishing. Stock is cheap plastic, but I don’t even blink if I nock it against something and scratch/gouge it. That’s one reason I bought the rifle, to be a work horse I don’t worry about dinging up. I’ve never had an issue with the rotary mag, that might be caliber specific or I got lucky. Can’t say.

I would love to see the Gen2 around the $500-$550 price range. I think it’s worth that. But I do agree at $650+, there are rifles with better fit and finish than the original American. I will make the call on the Gen2 after I actually handle one, maybe it will be more refined and more worthy of a $650-$700 price point.

If I can find a Ranch in 6.5 Grendel for $550-$600 next month, I'll buy it. I'm excited about the adjustable stock for my young sons.

I don’t know about other folks but accuracy is my number one priority in a rifle, so finding a gun that consistently shoots under 1 inch and many times closer to a half inch is what I am looking for and in the 600 dollar price range not many can as consistently as the American shoot that well. I feel with a little work the triggers are actually pretty decent
