That new light weight AR-10 Ruger built would be an awesome rifle for hogs at night.

Agree as BIL just bought one. Great price, really light for AR10 - 308 bullets are plentiful, love shooting a 165 to 175 gr BB on pigs as they just go down. Would be my choice.

We've used most all the popular calibers and several years ago we landed on the 6.5 Grendel and haven't left. Hornady BTHP is hard to beat on a hog, coyote or deer. You can go to an AR-10 frame and go with the .308 which is a great round but it's a beast to tote around all night.

Also, I'm not sure what brand thermal you bought but the majority are only rated for a max recoil of a .308. A 458 socom is too much recoil for most thermals.

.300 BO Integerally suppressed, I’ve killed hundreds with it and it’s short and light

I went with a non profit veterans group one night. All they do is take guys on night thermal hog hunts. They were shooting 350legend, 300hamr and 6.5 grendel(pretty sure one was). All of them did great, and with the amount they go shoot pigs, I doubt they would be shooting something that didn’t perform well for the intended use.

The rifle I had was a 350legend and it put a pretty good thump on the pigs.

Sightmark Wraith Mini 2, 2-16 x 35 on sale @ Cabela's. A friend has one and I really liked it.

go with the 458 socom,,, big holes leave big blood trails,,, if they even take a step,,, ,really impressive hitting anything and never having to wonder, did i even hit it? it is a real no doubter on impact!

The 6.8 SPC is only lightly more weight fully loaded than a 5.56 and a lot more KO. Cost of ammo is the only downside.

I just purchased an AGM rattler I’m setting it up on a 350 Legend. My barrel is supposed to show up today that’s the only piece of the puzzle I’m waiting on. I went with the 350 because decent ammo seemed reasonable, it will pack a decent punch, and still light weight.

I’d just go 75gr bthp or 77gr tmk loaded by AAC from palmetto state armory… put the $$$ towards a suppressor vs spending money on another upper

                            7.62x39. Cheap and effective.

I use a 6.8SPC and, more recently, a 300 Ham'r. Both are excellent pig killers. I had a 6.5 G and it never thrilled me so I got rid of it.
