So I haven't shot a rifle in years yet I own many times more than my wife is aware of. (I don't count her shoes so it works) Recently bought a new 30-06 as well as a gong, rubber straps and built a stand. The gong swings free on the two straps. I've been trying to sight it in at 100 yards but I might get two shots before the straps rip apart. I have to be doing something wrong. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've used the rubber from a tire sidewall. If you are tying the strap thew the holes on the gong they will take a lot of abuse from spatter. You might try some eyebolts with the eye on the back side of the target then tie your straps to the eye.Last edited by kcnatural; 10-04-2023, 08:51 AM.

T-posts or 2x4 Target mounts work a lot better than hanging from a strap/chain IMO. If you want to hang it, fire hose or conveyer belt material is what you want.
Side note: It’s a lot easier sighting in on Paper than it is on steel. Save the steel for some long range fun after you get it sighted in.
