I'm thinking of using their two piece steel bases instead of the one piece aluminum, about the same weight. The aluminum rings are super expensive and I want to say 3oz iirc, whereas the steel are 5oz. I'm having a hard time spending the cash for 2oz. One thing I'm not sure of, is if I use the two piece system if the slots would land at normal rail slot intervals, example if I want to swap the scope to another rifle with a standard rail the scope rings may not sit at the correct spacing to fit.

I just re-mounted my old Weaver pistol scope on the Ruger Bisley Stainless Hunter .41 mag this morning using the Ruger dovetail rings that came with the pistol. I had the scope on my Ragin Bull 41 mag for years using stainless Weaver dovetails. Never lost zero over the last 20 years and I shoot heavy heavy loads from my Pig pistols. 270gr leadheads gas checked with 19.5gr H110 and Magnum primers. Starline brass. Definitely some loudenboomer pistols.

Also think of the scope you are putting on it. Some newer scopes are shorter than older scopes. If you are putting a short scope on there, you may have issues getting it in the right spot for your eye relief. It’s made worse on a long action. I just encountered it putting a vortex scope on my buddies savage 25-06. Ended up having to put a rail on it so we could get it positioned for his eye relief.

You are correct about it may not match the standard rail spacing, but if you are swapping it to another rifle I guess it isn’t too difficult to loosen the ring caps and adjust slightly to get it to fit and then tighten down and zero the rifle.

Thanks for all the input y'all. I went ahead and ordered the Warne Mountain Tech full rail and matching Mountain Tech rings. I probably never will, but wanted the ability to swap the scope to other rifles without moving the rings, so kind of an easy swap and quick zero. This is my most expensive scope I own (it's just a VX5) so I may want to use it on a new rifle coming in also. If I do that all I'll need to buy is a rail for it.

Good Lord that one piece Warne rail is sky high. I got 30mm Low rings and I could probably fit a freaking spotting scope on there. I guess they have to be high to clear the ejection port but dang I'd like some lower ring options or something.
