Anybody still using Dual Dovetail rings?

I have Talley on last two rifles, kinda wanting something different. I was gonna go with Leupold Backcountry but saw some pics where they hang over the receiver on the X-Bolt and didn't like that. I've never been a fan of a rail on a hunting bolt action but I guess I could look into that. Back in the day it seemed Leupold Dual Dovetail were fairly popular, should fit well on this rifle. They're steel so should be plenty strong. Thoughts?

They are better than the windage adjustable base type but I use rails on all my rifles. It’s especially useful if you want to swap scopes around.

I still have a couple leupold on the fronts with the windage adjustable on the rears. Probably 60 years old. Never a hiccup with them.

Yeah my old 300 Wby I gave to my son a couple years ago still wears the rear windage adjustable version. That was mounted and sighted in when I was 16 years old so hasn't been touched in 31 years. He did switch ammo for a hunt a couple years ago and tweaked a couple clicks because it was a little higher than my old ammo.

I hadn't considered the swapping of scopes, that does make a lot of sense. I never swap scopes on hunting rifles, but maybe that's due to the pita it involves. I might be more inclined if it were easier. Hmmm

Windage adjustment bases work fine as long as you don’t give the scope a hard sideways bump or drop your rifle. It’s funny when people drop their rifle and find out their scope is off. When in actuality the ring moved in the windage adjustable base not the crosshairs in the scope.

Yeah in Colorado a few years ago a friend of a buddy had his windage screw come loose, scope was wiggling. We had to use a multi tool to crank it and sight it in on the fly. My old rifle though has been dropped plenty and ran over and that sucker hasn't buffed in 31 years, it's probably rusted in place by now lol. Regardless I don't like the style for the potential issues. I may look into the rail system for the first time but the DD I know and am familiar with.

I'd stick with the Talleys or put a rail on it and the sky's the limit.

Nope. Move to all rails and rings, whether bolt on or integrated.

You guys like the Warne one piece aluminum rail (mountaintech) or two piece steel rail pucks? They're about the same weight. Any issues mixing steel and aluminum for rail/rings?

The rule has been aluminum rings on steel base is okay. Steel rings on an aluminum base is not.

I’m still a fan of dual dove tails. I have several rifles that have them. We’re pretty much the go to for me and my ol man for as long as I can remember. If I go buy a new rifle tomorrow, I’ll probably try dovetails first.

Classic rifles wear classic rings. Modern rifles all have rails.

On all of my Leupold scopes. Been working for me nigh on 60 years. Never ever had one come loose.

I just put the warne mountain tech rail on my Bergara 300wm. People said the aluminum does fine, I usually went all steel, but trying to save a little weight where I can on this rifle.
