Prepared emergency food companies

Burt, I've had some of the Mnt House stuff a very long time ago, just to try it out. It wasn't bad at all. Some of it you just add hot water to the bag it comes in. It's a pretty popular, common brand. Can be found at Acadamy and some of the camping box stores.

We bit the bullet and bought a freeze dryer a year or two ago. Expensive, but eventually pays for itself when compared to buying the prepackaged food. We do a lot of eggs (egg powder), veggies, fruits, candies, etc.

How long does diy freeze dried stuff last compared to the er prep they claim can go 25 years??

It's the canning that intrigues me...I remember watching an early episode of Port Protection where ole Gary broke into his last jar of clams and/or muscles that was 10yrs+ old.

No way to know for sure, but we've read 25 to 30 years. We do a lot of stuff in mylar sealed packs then put into food grade buckets with oxygen absorbers.
