    Busy B Ranch

I went to the Busy B Ranch the beginning of April. A couple of months prior to the hunt, I contacted Jason and informed him of my desire for a bowhunt for exotics, specifically, an Axis. Animal prices were posted on the website and were confirmed by a price list he sent me. On my arrival, I reiterated my intention to bowhunt. The morning of my first hunt, it was explained to me that they were not prepared for me to bowhunt, but they would make a setup for the evening. That evening, as we were walking out to the blind, Jason informed me of the animal prices which were as much as twice the prices listed on the website and sent to me in the mail. The few animals that I saw were very skittish with the new setup, and did not present a shot. Of course, I wasn't going to shoot anything anyways with the new, much higher prices he had established. The hunting was very disappointing. If I had wanted to pay the new prices he was charging, I would have gone to the YO, instead of driving 7 1/2 hours to the other side of Texas. They advertised one set of prices and then changed them on my arrival. This was unethical.

The accomodations were, however, wonderful - clean, cozy, great for the kids. The lake was beautiful. The fishing was very tough as they are very heavily fished.

Overall impression: Great place to take the kids. Not a good place to hunt.

Didn't you question him changing the price? If he sent you a price list, and you reserved your date based on those prices, he should have stuck to them, and you should have held him to those prices. Sounds to me like he is indeed unethical, but it also sounds like you let him off the hook too easily.

I'm shocked to hear this! That just not sound at all like Jason. I've always found him to be real stand up guy. I just can't help but think there was a misunderstanding somewhere? Did you question him about the price increase?

It's hard to find a good outfitter, One good thing to ask is how many repeat clients the outfitter has.

Thats why 85% of my clients or repeat clients, they know what to expect. I would rather take a big loss then change a price after a client arrives at the ranch. That's definitely something that is not right!

Changing the price on a client might be one of them!

You are right. I did not confront him on this. That is not my style. Whereas I technically had the right to challenge him on the issue, I also know that he ain't gettin' rich doing what he's doing. If he really needed to get the higher prices for his animals, I didn't want to force him into allowing me pay less just because I could. That would have tainted the experience for me.

                      All right Kimosabee

What could he have done to make him stick those prices short of showing up with his lawyer or the county sheriff?

You will continue to be taken advantage of if this is your style. Stand up for your rights, man.

I would have reminded him that I reserved my hunt there based on the prices he provided me by mail, and I expected him to abide by his half of the contract. If not, I would have either gone back home or hunted and paid him the prices he quoted me in writing and by posting on his website. Simple.

What is he going to do if you kill an animal and pay him the price he quoted you before you came? It's not likely that he would pursue it, and he would not sue for such a small amount. If he did sue in small claims court, it is most likely you would win based on the facts.

I have grown up with Jason Bonner and have watched his busisness grow and it is almost 90% return of his customers and they are all satisfied. I dont think anyone on here should say he is dishonest or a bad outfitter. He goes out of his way to make sure that his clients enjoy a good hunt and that they know the prices before hand. If you would go to the website is says that that is a general price list and that prices will be quoted before your hunt and that certain animals will cost more. That is right there on the web site if you would like to check again. He is one of the most honest men I know and am offended by the accusation you are making. If you felt slighted you should have said something right then. I think you are ****** since you didnt kill an animal and are trying to blame Jason.

I will try to abstain from posting opinions. What I will post is fact only.

Pricing info on the Busy B Ranch website is as follows:

Hunts start at $125.00 a day, 2 day minimum. You are allowed one hog, of any size, times, the number of days you hunt.
Additional hogs, rams, & all exotics have an additional kill fee.
Prices will be quoted before your hunt.
                              Additional Hogs $100
                              Rams $200 and up
                              Axis Bucks $750 to $1150
                              Axis Does $250
                              * This is a general price list. Some exceptional animals may be offered at an additional price, while some animals may be offered at a reduced price. Your guide will quote the price during your hunt.

Attached is a picture of a price list that was sent to me by the Busy B Ranch along with a confirmation letter dated January 14, 2008. As I was walking out to the blind the first evening with Jason, he said, "My axis bucks are from $1750 to $2500." He did not say, "Some of my axis bucks are from $1750 to $2500." He also said that evening, "My black bucks are $1750." He did not say, "Some of my black bucks are $1750." He also said, "My oryx are $2500." He did not say, "Some of my oryx are $2500."
