Ok boys, we're up. I don't think I could have possibly prepared for this any more than I did. I will be out there Saturday to scout. Looking forward to Segment B. Should be a good moon phase, a good time in the rut and I saw the weather to be between 34 and 50 the entire time we are there. Hope it stays that way.

Either way, good luck to everyone out there for segment B. Remember updates are vital for those of us not out there.

I'm also not used to all day sits. I typically will do a half day, but plan of sitting as long as I can.

Eat good filling meals. I finally figured out that eating high carb meals like pastas help keep your energy levels up for long sits. Also I like to alternate sitting/standing cycles. Meaning if I get set up in the dark, I will sit until right before legal shooting light. Then I will stand until after sunrise. Then I try to stay in a sit 40 stand 20 schedule.

I'll be out there Sunday as well. I've been 3 times since September but need to get some trees picked out this time.

Hunting from a saddle, my thought is I just want to put my climbing sticks out there Thursday morning so that I can "claim" my spot. Granted - I know anyone can go anywhere, and if someone sets up 100 ft from me, I won't be upset, just move. But from what I've heard - from multiple people - it turns into a //////NASCAR event Thursday at 9. I guess if everyone else is out there I need to get set up and hope that folks see where I'm trying to hunt, respect it, and move along a bit.
Also, as you saw in the saddle hunting thread, I got a lot of stuff. It'd be nice to have half of it up and not have to pack it in. We'll see.

If so, unless your using a ladder stand, why do people set up the day before ?
Never made sense to me

I sincerely mean this: I don't think I've ever been this excited to hunt in my entire life, and that includes the first time when I was 21, just bought my first rifle, and was with my uncle and cousin at his lease south of Brownwood hunting does and spikes. I still can't believe I got drawn.
Meeting the people I've met, talking with everyone, learning the strategy, getting into saddle hunting... this is truly an unbelievable time in my life. I've obsessed over everything that I could have...hell I've even looked at the weather twice today because weather.com's 10 day forecast extends to 14! I've got places for each wind, I've found a shed, 6 bucks, sharpened my broadheads, tuned my bow, practiced climbing, practiced shooting, set up scrapes and licking branches, found new tactics I'll try... THIS is hunting!! I think I may have spoiled myself rotten and I'm still 10 days out. I don't know that I could ever enjoy sitting in a blind with a heater 100 yds away from a feeder... just the work to get to where I am has been absolutely thrilling. I hope that I can pass this on to my kid so he can enjoy it for his whole life. I've missed out, unfortunately. But here I am.

My thought has always been that set up day puts a HUGE gut punch to the place… for no reason other than not carry stuff the day of hunt. I personally (and I’ve never hunted the place) figured going to planned spots and getting last 100-200 in grey light. Set up in a complete un disturbed/ or less disturbed location and hunt.
I hear a lot of x-y distance of travel. That’s a lot of stink scatters around for no reason FOR SOME. obviously certain set ups require more … noise
