I carry for crazy pigs. I can deal with people. I watched a 300#+ pig attack the front end of the jacked up 1 ton 4 x 4 that I was hanging out the window of. It took two 223 rounds in the 10 ring from 10 feet away to stop him.

Wouldnt happen at granger...unless u could somehow corner one in a fence....other than that they are running..maybe a big boar that has a few arrows in him...I could see this....if there is free earth there going to run....sow with piglets will run....leave her piglets behind...these pigs are survivors...

Ive been running after their running butts since the 90s, I have yet to get one come after me...except during a management hunt and I wounded a sow with my .270, she tried to get after me but she also was hurt bad...good old days, I remember having 2 does and 4 hogs in the back of my truck after a morning walk and stalk...so much easier with a scoped rifle...too bad tpwd, went away with those hunts...I think it was 125.00 for a 5 day hunt...like 30 hunters assigned to different units. A thru g. Tpwd actually made some money from it. And they would have like 3 of these hunts plus archery...I now recollect the rifle hunts were shorter and cost less than the archery because you could shoot a big buck.

There's always the 'what if' factor. This hog was in the middle of 4000 acres of farm land. When you wound a pig you usually try to find it. That's when you might need to protect yourself....at Granger. A little over 45 years ago my dad shot a big sow right before she entered our milo. We waited a half hour and started tracking. She had circled back on her trail and was waiting for us. If her back had not been broke, she would have got her some. I was packing an 1100 with 00 buck in it. I can't carry the 1100 pig hunting at Granger, but I can pack a 9.
This is all just my perception of how I should go about pig hunting because of how past experiences have shaped my reality. I don't mean to impose that my method is any more correct than the next persons. You bring your experience to the hunt , I'll add mine and maybe we'll have most of the bases covered.

understood.....in all the years you have hunted out there have you ever needed a pistol for the crazy people out there?

I am all for carrying a pistol for protection and do but I have never felt like I was in danger out there except for other idiots out there blasting with ARs wildly and people walking around with 22s shooting a birds rabbits and who knows what else. Now that big boar might give you a run for your money but more likely he would be gone before you every knew he was around. Those **** granger pigs are smart!

spent a few hours out there the other day....saw two sows about 100 pounds but couldn't get a shot. Didn't see a single deer stand or set up the whole time I was out there.

Went out this morning with sneaky over near the mouth of the river and that real thick point shaped like florida...we split up and busted hogs out on both sides but they are staying in those 7 ft weeds...I jumped 2 right by me after sneaky across the weeds yelled HOGS!!!and then a whole sounder. Of like 20 im guessing...starts bulling through away from us...never got a shot and saw a ton of doves in the mesquite trees...we could have pot shot our limits in ten minutes...big northern mourning doves...

Is it worthwhile to hunt early tomorrow morning when it's still cool? I just want to get outside while the weather's nice.

I'm relatively new to the area and was raised up in the country. Love to bow hunt and thought id start getting after the hogs. Is granger still the place to be?
