Now, I am not saying this is correct, but Academy only gave my dad a Special 7-day HL for a non-resident. That was for $48. We looked in the book and it didnt state that he needed both PHL and SHL. He just needed the 7-day to cover the 5 days he was here. The manager talked to the "Hunting Specialist" that worked in the store and he didnt fully explain either. When they put his info into the computer as a non-resident for the SHL, the PHL is not listed as an option. She went to the resident part and obviously the PHL was list. Again we went to the book and there was nothing stated that a SHL and PHL were required. If you want a year long HL as a non-resident, I think it would have ran about $300-$400... It is definately not cheP for non-residents. So, Im off my soap box now...

^^^^^ this plus the $48 annual public lands permit for non- resident hunters. I have has several people come down to hunt and this was what was issued to them.
        We also went to academy.

Two friends & I went out today and walked east & west of the Primitive Boat Launch. We started around 3:00 and ended at dark. An armadillo, raccoon, arrow and a whole bunch of deer were all that was found. Earlier today I asked where to launch a Jon Boat and was told the Primitive Boat Launch. Is it possible for two people to carry a Jon Boat down the primitive boat launch? I'm guessing the 14 ft boat isn't that heavy but when you add the trolling motor, regular motor, battery, gas, etc it's gotta be a couple hundred pounds? I'm probably sounding like a wuss but has anyone carried one down that launch with just one other person?

What kind of arrow? Also was going to ask you what size Jon boat. Anything over 12' and you need to launch at Taylor park.

It's a 14 foot Jon Boat so I'll launch at Taylor Park, thanks. The arrow I found is a Beman ICS Hunter Pro 400. Let me know if this is anyone's arrow.

Never go by what the employees at Academy, Wal-Mart, BassPro, Cabela's, Gander Mtn, etc. tell you what license you need - the majority of time they are incorrect and many folks who listen to them and purchase what they recommend or tell you that you need can end up with a game violation for having the incorrect license, stamp, permit, etc. for where they are hunting or what species they are hunting.

A hunting license is required of anyone regardless of age to hunt any animal, bird, frog or turtle in our state required on private property or public hunting lands. If you are hunting on TPWD public hunting lands/'walk-in'/APH lands, you will require the Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH) $48 in order to access and hunt on those public hunting lands.

On the year-long non-resident license, it is not $300-400 but $132 and that's for small game, exotics, javelina, alligator and the bird species except for turkey and is not valid for deer or other big game species.

The Non-Resident license that is $315 for a year, allows all species to be taken including deer and turkey and other big game species and is the ONLY non-resident license that is valid for deer, turkey, mule deer, pronghorn antelope and desert big horn sheep.

If a non-resident is wishing to hunt turkey in the Spring Season only, we do offer a Non-Resident Spring Turkey License that is $126 and it does not require the Upland Game Bird Stamp endorsement, $7 like the other non-resident licenses will for Upland Game Birds, Migratory Game Birds or the Non-Resident General Hunting License for the Archery Stamp Endorsement or the other Game bird stamps if you hunt those species.

Below is taken directly off the TPWD website and is available for all to see or call TPWD if you are in question on what is required to hunt and where. It'll save you a lot of time and could definitely also save you some headaches and possibly citations if you listen to or follow what a license vendor tells you unless it's from one of our Game Warden offices or our Headquarters.

                      Non-resident General Hunting (Type 105): $315
Valid to hunt any legal bird or animal (including deer). Stamp endorsement requirements apply.

Non-resident Spring Turkey (Type 118): $126. Available after Feb. 1.
Valid to hunt turkey only during the open spring turkey season. Holders of this license are exempt from the upland game bird stamp endorsement requirements. (Unlawful to possess both this license and a
                      valid Non-Resident General Hunting License.)

                      Non-resident Special Hunting (Type 107): $132
Valid to hunt: Exotic animals (see pg. 77), all legal game birds (NOT VALID FOR TURKEY), all nongame animals, squirrel, javelina and alligator (not valid for other game animals, NOT VALID FOR DEER ). Stamp endorsement
                      requirements apply.

                      Non-resident 5-Day Special Hunting (Type 157): $48
Legal for any period of five consecutive days (valid hunting dates will be printed on the license when issued). Valid to hunt: Exotic animals (see pg. 77), all legal game birds (except turkeys), all nongame animals, squirrel, javelina and alligator (not valid for other game animals, NOT VALID FOR DEER ). Stamp
                      endorsement requirements apply.
