TPWD Draws - Stuck out again

Well so far me and my fellow hunting buddies have struck out on all the drawings we have put in for and we put in for almost every category. I guess there is still archery exotic to draw and maybe we get lucky for Spring turkey or maybe getting really lucky on a 2nd draw for mule deer...but I am usually not that lucky.

So I am left with hunting at deer lease (which is not bad) and a few super secret public spots and to plot for next year.

Good luck to all of those who got drawn! If you are hunting Devil's River South Unit (they gave it a new name that I can't recall right now), Daughtrey, Serria Diablo PM me and I can give you what I got! Good Luck again!

I feel your pain. Other than one youth hunt my son go drawn for a couple of years ago, I'm 0-forever. I did lose points a few years ago when my group changed, but dang, throw me a bone.

I can't complain, over the last few years we have gotten drawn for 4 youth hunts and one adult turkey hunt, just wishing and hoping! All my boys have grown up so no more youths, at the moment.

MAYBE....TPWD make a SENIOR category!!!! You have to be 50 or over!!!!!

Yea, didn't have much luck either. They should charge an out of state license fee for nonresident to apply for public hunts. That would cut out spot of the "what the neck apply people" and allow better odds for state residents...

Just make a separate draw system for out of staters. Do a 5 year study to determine the % of drawn hunters that actually show up from out of state...I don't mind if out of staters want to put in, I don't think they should have same odds as residents do.

I highly doubt NRs represent enough of a percentage to make a difference in draw odds.

The cheap price and ability to apply for multiple hunts have a bigger impact.

Want to increase draw odds? Make it to where you can only apply for one hunt again and collect permit fees in advance like NM does. That would have a bigger impact than cutting out NRs.

If I were in charge....I'd make it a must be present to win draw, just like standby hunters. Maybe not the day of but maybe a week before, plus time to scout/set up as appropriate. Drawn hunters would benefit greatly from that and kill quotas would be better met benefiting the park.

All good suggestions. I'm no statatition but something tells me the ease of the internet application system has greatly increased applications. Member hand written postcards and checks a few short years ago? Now days You could be in upstate New York at your computer and for $3 throw your hat in for the coveted matadore all on line. Easy peasy, needs to be a lil harder for that to happen. Hey, I could be way off about that though...

Unfortunately a few years ago most on here were complaining about the paper applications and saying why can't we do it online like other states. Saying Texas was so far behind. And now it's happened. It's not going to go back to paper applications, that's just not how things work these days. Best we can hope for is one application per category. And once again, a few years ago most were complaining about only being able to apply for one category.

I've been doing these for many years. My luck for getting drawn goes in waves. Most years, I don't get drawn for anything, some years I get multiple draws. This year, I got drawn for 4 hunts! Most years, a **** in a biscuit.
With the new system, I've actually done pretty good. I've been drawn for GDA, GDE, alligator, feral hog, waterfowl, and archery deer NWR. Can't complain.
Be patient guys, evey dog has his day. Mine has probably come and gone.

I got drawn on a stand by this year archery deer. I do believe it should be a show up basis. If you are not able to drive or take of a work day to be there for the draw chances are you won't scout/ hunt enough. I live an hour away and I try to go out at least once a week to hunt. I also make trips after work to scout since I don't have enough time to get in before dark. IMHO.

I can't complain at all. Some years I don't get drawn for Jack Squat. This year, I drew GDE at Gus Engeling, GDA at Whitney AND Hill Country AND Atlanta SP. I also drew archery deer at Laguna Atascosa. To top it off, I drew waterfowl at RC and a doe permit at SHNF. Some days chickens, some days feathers.

Needless to say, I haven't been home much this fall.

I probably won't get drawn for years now.
