1. Chiggers are all over. Spray accordingly and try and stay out of the high grass and off the ground. Nasty little ****s.
2. Lots of good sections to hunt. Section 1 will be reopened I heard. Some big deer there historically. Section 5 at the northern end popular.
3. I have never had any luck stalking or still hunting. I like to set up on trail intersections along edges of fields with my wind going to open field. If you can sit all day, do it.
4. Prevailing winds are southeast and northeast.
5. Some of the biggest bucks killed have been in middle of day. 11-1 pm especially when we get a cold front. Park game wardens told me many years ago the biggest mistake hunters make is not hunting in the middle of day after the morning hunters head back to trucks for lunch and a siesta
6. There's a drainage ditch about 600-700 yards west of the caliche road that runs along section 8. I've set up on it where trails intersect and have had some shots.
