John - you said it brother! I've put up with that before or someone setting up 50-75 yds from you, not safe in anyone's mind and total lack of respect for the hunter(s) already there. Heck, had folks set up on the opposite side of a mesquite tree less than 15' from me to dove hunt - now that is insane at the highest point.

I'm glad to have access to 3500 acres in the county I live in with several ponds and Colorado River access plus a really good area of marsh which was my old duck/goose lease, but a long run by boat, but worth it.

I try not to mess with all the units south of Houston. I'm not into waiting in line or fighting a crowd. I've been very successful at Dam B by camping in the primitive campsites (accessible by boat only) for 3 or 4 days at a time and hunting all the sloughs way back in the back between the two rivers where nobody wants to go. It's pretty tough to get around in some areas due to the Giant Salvinia but it's worth the pay off.

If you've got a boat then I would highly recommend doing some scouting up there and finding a good hole you like. Key thing is to familiarize yourself with the terrain and know your way to whatever hole you wanna hunt cause it's VERY easy to get turned around up there. Be on your spot well before shooting hours, make you some coffee in your percolator pot, then sit back and slam some woodies.

Sounds like you got a sweet deal. No need to even travel really.
