It's already hard enough to hunt Fort Hood dealing with closed areas, can't get teletracked in quick enough before it fills up and now it's shut down period indefinitely. It would be nice to get part of that money back but it ain't happening. I am out of a job right now and cannot afford to drive around to corn my spots.
I just thank the good Lord everyday for letting me get out of bed, enjoy my family, friends and life period. It could definitely be worse. He will provide.

This came off of the Ft Hood Facebook page:
As a result of the federal government shutdown, the Garrison Commander has made the decision to close the 2013 Fort Hood deer bow hunting season until further notice, effective immediately. Fort Hood’s wildlife specialists of the Natural Resource Management Branch have been furloughed and there is not enough manpower to meet the requirements for deer check in and the data collection process, which plays a critical role in the management of the wildlife program on the Fort Hood reservation.
As the start of the gun and rifle deer hunting season is not until Nov. 2, a decision for cancelling has not been made yet.
Currently, small game hunting (dove, rabbit, squirrel and pig), fishing, and area access recreational activities remain operational.
Fort Hood apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. If hunters have any question, please contact Judy Johnson at 254-532-4552 or judy.johnson5.naf@mail.mil

In the mean time best of luck to you if you try out other public land opportunities. I pass by a place east of Marlin all the time and it looks like a good place to at least sit awhile.

Fortunately I didn't put all my eggs in the Ft Hood basket. When they shut down the 30's a couple years ago, I found some extended family that let me hunt a small property in Lampasas County.
I bought my wife a Crossbow on Wed.
She practiced Thur & Fri.
Had to work Sat.
We went out Sunday evening.
I put her in 1 of my Bow Stands.
Her 1st ever Bow Hunt.
Her 1st Hunt by herself.
Her 1st Kill. 85lb Sow.
Her 1st Pig.... Perfect double lung/heart shot, ran 10yds.
1 Super proud Redneck Husband!
I created an addict.... she's been threatening to hunting without me on days I have to work!
She's 1 up on me, I've never shot a Pig that wasn't in a trap.Last edited by Nophears; 10-04-2013, 12:22 AM.
