Well I actually began as a photo editor for the Dallas Mavericks. I got to shoot some games last year while working and got to learn from their pro photographers. Then I submitted my work to see if I could be selected to join SportsShooter.com and I got accepted. It's a directory for sports photographers that the media uses to hire photographers in different markets. From there I began getting freelance jobs to shoot various sporting events locally.

Here are a few shots from the Mav games. The last one is for ya'll!

Being accepted in to Sports Shooter is really an honor!

I was reading about it on TPF and it sounds like the application process is pretty tough!

Congrats on getting in -- now you can "justify" even more equipment

Thanx Rod it is an honor. I'm pretty fortunate to have been accepted but I also have worked really hard at it as well. Lot's of reading, learning, practicing, and even a few arguments when my wife wanted to go do something and I told her I 'needed' to shoot. Now she's happy because she gets extra shopping money from these gigs so it's all good now.

Yes, it does justify more equip. I have another D300 due here tomorrow just in time for the weekend tournament! I am on TPF as well. What's your screen name?

That's just great. Now in addition to a professional wildlife photographer we have a professional sports photographer on the green screen. Talk about intimidating! Oh well, I guess it's like golf - playing with someone much better than you will only improve your game. Great pics!

Thanx jerp. I'm actually working on my wildlife side as well. I'm trying to specialize in Sports, Wildlife/Nature, and Concerts. So I'm looking forward to Russell's seminars at the Bass Pro coming up. I'm just trying to learn too!

Thanx Muzzle, Blues and Legdog. Those girls are awesome athletes and they can really jump up there. Many of them were well over 6' tall!

Just hanging around, watching the photogs working and just seeing how they do things. Then it was just practicing after that.

I just got called tonight to work the World Series again this weekend in Flower Mound so I'll be there all day Sat and maybe on Sun. It pays pretty decent but I turn around and spend it on either bowhunting gear or camera gear. It's fun though. Thanx!
They might be public events, but I'd recommend you now show up at events where minors are participating in sports in skimpy outfits and start taking pictures, lest you get on the radar of the local authorities.

My screen name is the same as on here --- I just found the forum about two weeks ago when I read about the Smugmug promotion over on POTN.

I joined and posted something on here about the promotion and instantly got six referrals -- all of which counted towards the contest (that hadn't been announced yet! )

You might say that I get lucky sometimes.....
