Sure wish Nikon would come out with a fast (affordable) zoom f/2.8-4.0 in about 100-500mm

Danny, how do you like the 18-200? I have been thinking about selling my
18-70 f3.5-4.5 kit lens and getting one of those, for a "walking around lens"

I think FAST and AFFORDABLE are mutually exclusive terms.

          Scotty,

I love the lens, BUT.... you better have light to shoot it. It is not an action lens.

If you are looking for a "action" lens, this isn't it. Neither is the 80-400 vr. Both are bad to the bone on giving you the ability to shoot at lower F stops, but on when you start getting down in the low numbers on your shutter (like under 400, your subjects need to be still objects. I tried to shoot some black birds that were catching bugs in the yard the other night and the scene was still and crisp. The birds were blurred and out of focus because of movement.

If your subject is still for the shot, the lens are bad to the bone.

I would go with a F2.8 all the way through if I were you. 20 yards and closer, 35-70 2.8 20 yards and farther 80-200 AF f2.8

            Danny,

I have a Nikkor 70-200VR f2.8 that I use for action/sports shots. I'm wanting something with a wide zoom range, that doesn't weigh a ton, and still takes great pictures. "A walking around lens".

The 18-200 is your lens then. Put it this way. I bought a 12-24 f/4 Tokina and for me and a 18-200 for Stacie. Her lens came in two days after my 12-24 f/4 and I sold my Tonina to buy the Nikon VR 18-200.

I had all my glass today at Trade Days. The 2.8 went on one time for "action" and the 18-200 stayed on the rest of the day.

You will not be disappointed if you. Check out Cameta Camera on Ebay. I bought both mine from them off of ebay. US lens, 90 day warranty from Nikon and a full one year from Cameta Camera on the lens. It is a "demo" lens, but refurbished and backed by Nikon and Cameta Camera.

Don't know much about it other than pointing and shooting. I seems to have many options I need to learn more on.

Maybe we should have separate photography sections...one for $200 to $400 cameras and one for $500 cameras and higher.
