Tropical Weather Threat For Texas

Put everything in the backyard that could become a surface to air missile in the garage. Took my cover off the boat and pulled the drain plug out. (figured cover is worthless in this situation). Wife just got called in for 12-24hr hour shifts next couple days. This is going to be a rough couple of days ahead.

Prayin for folks in coastal areas or areas with the potential for flooding... this is one I definitely hope doesn't live up to the hype. Our house is on a big hill but we have the potential to get trapped in between a couple creeks and rivers with no way out for a while if we get the kind of rain that's forecasted

Got the generator running with a good carb clean and filled the freshwater tank on the rv. Will fill bathtubs tomorrow. Water usually goes about 6 hours after power in our neighborhood.

I don't see this as an over hyped weather event. I believe when I started this thread, people weren't even aware of this and a few were wondering why hasn't the news picked up on this so it was under hyped at the time. What is going on now is not being over hyped, it is called reality.

Even if Harvey came in as a Cat 1 hurricane, the damage would be substantial because of the collapsing of steering currents causing major flooding issues. Now he is forecasted to be a category 3 major hurricane so the storm surge will be tremendous ( stalling out along the coast...the water just keeps piling up) and now we have serious wind damage to deal with.

After a day or 2 of just drifting around, he might start to move slowly eastward along the coast or just off the coast keeping his structure in tact and strengthening. The feeder bands just keep whipping the fire out of coastal Texas and even far inland. This torture could last till Monday, Tuesday or even Wednesday next week. If this plays out, then I can't even imagine the devastation. I'm the last one to hype something up...just having a hard time rapping my head around this.

I am hoping like heck y'all come back in here in a couple days and call me a drama queen, I really do.

Harvey is currently taking up the entire GOM, with outer bands to the Bay of Campeche. Definitely strengthening with the warm waters.

Appears it will make landfall near POC, then get stuck in between 2 High pressure cells, and stall for 3-4 days High pressure systems from the NW and SE will keep it stationary and not allow it to move.

Praying for all my Texas brothers and sisters who live in the path. Hoping my opinion is 100% wrong since I've been there before ... 24" in 48 hrs.

This is my major concern as well. Holding it in place will cause major wreckage and flooding all along the coast.

I'm hoping once it comes on shore he has enough force to push the NW high off and let it run it course and not stay stationary along the coast

I live on the San Bernard and could easily flood with this thing coming in. I could just as easily not flood. I cant stop a river and I can't flag away a hurricane. I can however offer my place to anyone that needs help. If you need a place to go, we welcome you. I have a big yard that can take trailers and all that sort of stuff. I have two extra bedrooms. We're set here with a generator, food, water and a window unit. 713 530 9182. Text or call if you need help. I also have an airboat if anyone needs evacuation.

Where on the river are you? We have a place south of Churchhill and that's the last place you'll find me this weekend!!

I have a buddy in Sulphur who has been in really bad shape due to rains the past 60+ days and says the infrastructure can't handle any more...is this isolated (subsided) or a major issue for you guys??

Sounds like this possible stall & re-intro back into the gom could affect you guys drastically.

Pretty much all of South LA has seen 1-2" of rain everyday for the past 2 months. Some areas more, some a little less. Farmers are in a mess of trouble as beans and sugar cane cannot handle any more water.

The ground is so saturated that even when it rains 1", some places flood b/c the water has nowhere to go. Personally I'm fine here in Youngsville, but am also very tired of the rain. Haven't seen the mosquito infestations yet, but they are gonna be bad in next several months

I'll most likely run the freezer for 10-15 minutes then the fridge for a few to keep it all cool.

Thats all if we even lose power this far north, but im pretty sure we will. A cow down the road can fart and we lose power on most days.

Hey Stick, During Ike, I had a large fridge and a 24 cubic foot upright freezer on a Honda EU2000i and ran it continuously around the clock. It would run about 14-16 hours on 1 gallon of gas. We also ran a three bulb lamp and a floor fan on the genny. I had 2 of them and ran a 110 volt 13 amp window A/C unit on the other one. It would run all night on that gallon of gas... sure made for great sleeping... We were in Kingwood and was without power for about 2 weeks... I still have those 2 gennys and later bought an EU6500 and that thing is really nice... and just as quiet. Cranked 'em all today to check 'em out...
