Alright, I need some help lol.. I’ve been striking out the last couple years deer hunting on my property (although I have been putting in alot of stand time, like 7-8 days in a row in the peak of the rut and more) and need some advice so I’m turning to the green screen.. It’s getting frustrating..
My property is approximately where the red line is.. If you see the line going down the middle of my property vertically, that’s a powerline clearing.. The does like that, but the bucks don’t.. I rarely get them on camera there..
Basically, before the season starts I get a lot of good size bucks coming through in bachelor herds. There’s quite a few trails in the woods West of the powerline easement, that’s where I tend to get all the bucks on camera.. Then, as the season begins, I get decent bucks on camera, but they are fairly few and far between.. Show up at dusk or dawn once every few days.. Nothing too big but definitely shooters.. This is how the last few seasons went at least..
At first I just thought “well, there aren’t a ton of deer here”. BUT, my neighbor to the North gets TONS of HUGE deer. Deer I NEVER get on camera. I’ve gone and visited him and he starts showing me monsters on his trail cameras that show up multiple times a day (when on the same day I have zero deer!).. Deer that never make it in front of my cameras and I only live 100-150 yards away!! I even saw one huge buck out his window bedded in the middle of the day as I was there! I know he feeds them year round.. They just kind of hang out and bed around his place in general.. They aren’t tame by any means but his property is more wide open so you can see a lot farther whereas mine is more wooded..
I think my property is used more like a transition zone.. I tend to mainly get the bucks on camera moving North to South (sometimes South to North) on trails just inside the treeline to the West of the powerline easement.. I get groups of different does multiple times a day every day..
I’ve tried feeding (protein + corn) and it seemed like for the most part only does came to the feed.. I’m guessing the bucks all eat at my neighbors? Tried buck candy one year didn’t do anything.. I stopped feeding last year and deer numbers on my cameras seemed about the same..
What can I do to help get these deer on my property?? These deer on his cameras are literally 100-150 yards away and they don’t come my direction
