    Lets talk mineral blocks/tubs

My cows hammer the protein tubs and it seems to keep them in good shape. Curious how the deer would like them. Here is what I feed the cows:

I keep Positive Feed tubs out for my cattle. They also make a wildlife tub.

Do the deer not use the tubs you have out for cattle?

      (might need to add vanilla)

The smaller blocks and trophy rock stuff just gets rolled off by the hogs. Im thinking a 125lb tub will 1) last longer and 2) be harder for the hogs to move.

Never put a camera on one. Going to put a tub in a feed pen this weekend.

I tried that blue one 3-4 years ago with no luck! I did not have a camera over it

I may buy one though in January and put out the last weekend of season though with a camera over it for 2 months. Ideally to maybe see what eats it and if I can get a pic of any good bucks that made the season alive

On our place in Brazoria county, I tried the PF wildlife tubs back in '11 when we had the bad drought. The deer didnt touch them.....Actually, nothing touched them. I put corn on top, and when it got hot, the corn just sunk down into the molases.

I bet out west, or south in the drier climates where there is usually not much to eat, I bet they would work good. I might pick one up and try it out in Rocksprings......See if the Axis like them.

I'm curious how well that will work. If they do well for you I will give it a try.

Hardest part IF they like it will be getting them to start eating it. Thinking I might getthe pear burner and melt some of the top and smash some corn in to it. Beer will have to eat a little to get to the corn and that might help get them going on it. Trail cam photos to follow...

I put out the loose minerals and the deer eat it. I put it in a 5 gal bucket 3/4 to 1/4 salt to mix it up and then just take a 1/2 gal juice bottle when I go hunting and dump it in the same spot all the time. Have seen deer travel to it as much as a feeder would pull them in a lot depends on the weather drought etc.

Last spring I put out the larger sized trophy rock and had to put out another one in two months... they love that thing, that was the best success I've had with any mineral lick or block. Bachelor group of small bucks visited almost everyday. Plan on trying the protein tub as well.

Trophy Rock works awesome in the velvet months I agree! Not much action during season tho

Jeff please post pics once you get a TC over it! Thanks

I've tried the Trace mineral salt from TSC and had a lot of deer hit it. Its cheap and worth a try. I just pour it on the ground and I start off with 1/2 bag and then just add a coffee can or 2 every so often. But its like the trophy rock and works better in the earlier months and has little activity during the hunting season...

Trial run officially underway. Hope to pull cards Sunday and see what if anything is hitting it. I top dressed it with corn.
