    How to add weight

So I have some FMJ's that I got for a heck of a price when I first started learning to shoot my bow. Well the ones I got are 340's and I had them cut to 27 1/2" and I was shooting 60lbs at the time. I Switched to some different arrows that were correctly spined and my groupings instantly shrunk. These things are just too stiff for my bow even with 125 grain field points. I'm shooting a 70lbs bow now set at 66lbs and at 70lbs they should be fine but I don't want to shoot at a full 70lbs. It's just a bit much for me.

So that said my question is how do you add weight to the front of the arrow to weaken the shaft a bit further? Do they make some kind of adapter you can screw in to add another 25 or 50 grains? I know the best solution would be to sell the dozen arrows I have and buy the right ones but I got these for $40 for the whole dozen. Any ideas how to add weight to these rather than to spend a bunch of money on new ones?

Also please don't just message back that them being too stiff is fine because I can tell you that they are WAY too stiff and DONT work well right now.

If you csn get those inserts out you can get some 50 gr 75 gr or even 100 gr from 3 rivers

I believe there's screw on weights that font the back of the insert I believe you might be able if u can get a long enough Allen wrench and come through the nock side and screw them in. I'm pretty sure I've heard that done before but I might be dreaming lol

What bow. And what draw length are you. I'm surprised the fmj at 340 spine was to stiff

unless you are shooting a real old bow that's real slow or have a draw length that is much shorter than your arrow length (like 2-3") then those arrows with a 125 shouldn't be that stiff. based on the limited information you have provided I would say they are probably on the stiff side but should still be able to be tuned. just for grins what was the weight of the fmj with the 125's vs the new set-up you prefer?

I think removing the insert via a drill bit(flat end towards the threads) and inertia is going to be my best bet. Found a good thread on AT about putting the drill bit in the shaft and flinging it a few times till it comes out. I think ill add some weighted inserts at that point and that should fix my problem. Thanks for the advice.

I put in the program. M6 66 lb 27 draw. Using a 125 gn tip and blazers. Fmj gun metal 340. Your .014 on the weak side. If you put a 50 gn insert you will be weak by .028.

These arrows are not to stiff. There slight weak. Just do a good tune job and you will be fine. I would not add any more weight up front.

This was done on the ontarget2 spine program. It has a free trail or it's like 20 bucks

Better do this in the garage, those inserts can come out and tear stuff up. The drill bit trick does work good though

Maybe try reducing your draw weight and go to a 100gr head just to see if your groups shrink. If they do, then like mentioned before your arrows are a little weak. I would do this before making any unnecessary "structural" changes.

i think enewman might be right, it's been a while since i've shot these arrows, i'm gonna try a bunch of stuff out when i get home to see what works best. I'll try 100 grain field points redcue the poundage to 60, shoot 3 groups, the same at 65, then the same at 70, replace the 100 grain with a 125 and do it all again. I'll do it 3 days in a row just in case i have an off day.

I've read alot of enewman's posts on here and i have a feeling he's going to make me feel stupid lol.
