    Braided Fishing line vs Mono.?

Okay, I am fixin to string a couple of new bait casting reels and was wanting to get the GS feelins on which type of string is the best all around type. I will mainly be saltwater fishing and wanting to tie a strong flouracarbon leader to it. New to the Braided line era.

If you are fishing around rocks with braid it will break very easily. I've tried it on the jetties and lost a lot of tackle

I fish with braided line and love it. I'll never fish with mono again. Just remember to tie a shock leader on the end.

The braid is strong but does abraid easily. Also the drag is not nearly as smooth with braid. it cuts into the spool pretty bad with heavy drag. i went back to 50lb biggame on my gar poles.

I have heard this and I will start spooling mono before the braided to keep it from cutting into the spool.

All you need is a cane pole and some bailing string, considering all the fish you guys catch....

Tape over the spool knot with a wrap or two of electrical tape before filling up a reel with braid.

Lots of knots that work fine with Mono WILL NOT hold in braid. Tie a palomar knot to your lures with braid or learn the hard way!

I really like using braided line but if you try and use it exactly like you use mono you'll hate it.

Both have their places. I personally have done well for reds, trout and flounder on Power Pro. In clearer water a fluorocarbon leader may be needed but if you have water with a little of color you can tie direct to the lure.

I use braid on all of my reels and then tie on about a 3' mono leader. Make sure you put it on the spool tight, I put a little Teflon tape on my spool then put on the braid it helps grab the spool.
