Where I live that thing would be a heated snake den. Nice build. I may do something similar but will have to think about where to put it. Apparently, the coyotes are taking a toll on our mousers. Something like this would also provide a safe spot for the cats.

I have been putting off building one but for whatever reason I haven’t. Where I live they would need a secondary exit for escaping. If not with the raccoons here they wouldn’t stand a chance.

We have dogs coming through looking for cats to kill. This is what I came up with for multiple escape options...

All the food’s gone, I saw cat prints up the driveway. Put the gamecam up.

Here’s the 9x12 heater screwed to the bottom.

Don't look like a cat house I saw in the P.I.

My wife's cats would want a towel in the bottom of that hooch.

                Looks good.

If these don't return, maybe keep the next two penned up long enough to get a couple of meals off of ya?

Well, I have 1 cat on the game cam.

We haven’t seen a cottontail rabbit or caught a mouse since last Thursday. Jack rabbits are bigger than the cats.

Starting with younger cats would help. Keep them confined for a few days in the barn or garage, then introduce them to the shelter. Make sure they know where the food is. Then release them. That should help.

^^^ This. You have to confine them for at least 2 weeks so they accept their new home base. Put your little set up in the barn with them so they recognize it outdoors.

By the way - I really like your idea! My friends took a chimenea, put a heat lamp over the chimney and a bed of old towels in the base. They often have 5 cats in there at once - and they only own 4. It is toasty warm but not too hot.

I moved the food inside the house- the magpies emptied a small bowl of cat food outside. The removable roof comes in handy.

We saw “Cat1” (like Dr Seuss’s Thing1 and Thing2) twice yesterday, she’s really flighty and took off when my wife went to a window. Our Labrador Retriever woke me last night focused outside our bedroom sliding door.

No rabbits out from under the deck and this is a record number of days with no field mice in a trap on the deck.
