Here you go.
I got started on the handrail part. Have the base part cut and mostly welded up. I took a piece of oak and whittled on it some to put on top of the tubing. I cut a 1”x2” dado in it so it will slip over and cover the tubing.
This piece had quite of few checks and pockets so I wound up having to use epoxy to repair them. It will match the shelf then. Lol

Almost forgot....when I was on the way to the metal sales place I passed a guy cutting some trees down on the edge of town. I was running a little short on time as the place closed at 5 but I said what the heck and turned around to talk to him. I asked what he was going to do with them as they were pecan and he told me he was just going to haul em off. I asked if I could have a couple of pieces and he said sure thing. I went back yesterday to get the wood and he even loaded them on my trailer with a back hoe free of charge. My parents always told me it never hurts to ask for something and they were right!

Thanks backwoods. Sometimes I get a little carried away. Like counter sinking the top rail mounting holes.
I decided to screw the middle piece in instead of welding it so I can change it in the future. Turns out the tap drill I had for a 10/32 was broken so I had the sharpen it before I could use it. I find that’s a skill very few people have today as it’s easier just to get another bit.

Well I got it finished and installed.
I primered and shot the satin black on the metal using a bigger that normal tip to give the surface a nice textured look.
The wife and myself are happy with the results. It’s a whole lot safer up there too.
I am now a tile setter working on tiling the bathroom and am hating it!
