How did you secure the rim of the barrel to the side of the pen?
Good idea with the chain holding the rear. That keeps from having legs going to the ground and have to mow/weed eat around them.

4 Bolts per barrel. Plywood on the inside of the mesh and the barrel on the outside. All sandwiched together with washers on the bolts

Great job on the kennels and especially the thinking on the barrels but be careful using the wood and straw, both will harbor disease!!!!

I pressure wash and bleach the kennels.
Changing to the open top barrels will make them much easier to clean out
